One word: Ratings. People loved this when they've done it during the All-Star games. MLB is just trying to up the entertainment value of their product... for the 12 people who are watching.

It's called dumbing down America. They new and probably hoped that would happen. They want that to be legal on every show. So now they can say. "Hey they say it on football and baseball games. Why not The Big Bang Theory".
