Oktibbeha County Coroner Michael Hunt says Andrew Scott Demboski went into cardiac arrest and apparently died from head injuries following the fall at about 1:30 a.m. Saturday. He and two other male students apparently climbed to the top of the huge video board, and he slipped and fell from a wide sheet metal awning that spans the top of the device.
“It appears to be a tragic accident,” Hunt said.
He fell about 18 feet onto a platform, landing on his head, Hunt said. The Starkville Fire Department had to use rescue techniques to get him down from the platform. Emergency responders worked on Demboski for about an hour while he was being removed to the ground level but could not save him, Hunt said. A helicopter was waiting outside the stadium to take him to a hospital.
