Coach O Clarifies How LSU Calls Plays, Answers Question About Joe Brady's Long Term Plan

Earlier this week, Ed Orgeron said that new passing game coordinator Joe Brady is calling the offensive plays but expanded on the play-calling hierarchy during his radio show on Wednesday night.

According to Orgeron, Brady is making some of the calls but offensive coordinator Steve Ensminger is calling 90-percent of the plays. He added that Ensminger and Brady are both on the headset and that Ensminger has the final say.

Whatever they are doing... it's working.

Orgeron was also about his long-term plan for Brady since the Tigers offense is having record-setting success...

"Keep him as long as we can," Orgeron said.

Does it really make a shite? At the end of the day, the job is getting done. It’s obvious that Coach E and Brady are in sync and spend days and hours a week game planning. 2-0; yards and points out the arse in unprecedented numbers. Better than any OC or OC combo in the last decade. Proud of the product, could careless how they decide to “call it”. On to 3-0...

But it is exactly what he said the week prior. Brady makes the initial call, then Ensminger can overule the play, which he does rarely. The problem is that the same questions get asked over and over, so eventually the coach will just word it differently.

Promote Joe to OC after this season. SE doesn't have an ego and would probably be happy going back to TE coach or some sort of assistant coach.

Y'all do know that back in the day Woodley was the starter and when the passing game needed to be used Ensminger came in. In our group he was known as the passing QB. So I dont know why some of you think he is not calling most if the passing plays. That's what he likes to do.

I believe when Ensminger accepted the OC job there were some comments made, maybe on his behalf, that insinuated he was happy being TE Coach, no intentions of being an OC that he was filling a need. I have had the feeling / understanding that Ensminger at OC was a short term deal. Ensminger has done good and it’s time for him to move back to the TE Role and let Brady run. Also for recruiting what’s more appealing and up and coming 29 year old or a 60 year old.
