LSU is planning on redshirting junior cornreback Ashton Stamps and and 5th-year senior Jardin Gilbert, Brian Kelly revealed on Monday. Per NOLA.com:

quote:

"We're trying to protect them," Kelly said. "Both of them. They've both played three games, so if we can, in fact, protect their year, we'll try to."

Neither Stamps, nor Gilbert, has seen the field since LSU beat Florida on Sept. 13. Stamps started 24 games across the previous two seasons, but he’s since slipped down the depth chart behind sophomore PJ Woodland and five-star freshman DJ Pickett.

They both will probably transfer in January.

I thought that window was closed - or is it the only window open now?

agree. use them if you need to, although it would be doing Gilbert a favor to let him transfer with a year of eligibility left. As it stands now he's not going to get drafted

Translated: we are opting out this year since we are not starting so we can hit the portal.

Expect to lose many in the portal, 25 to 30 minimum. What a wasted roster!

I doubt the number will be near that large. But we will lose players to the portal.

They won't lose that many. Players aren't as bitch made as fans are. Their hearts aren't ripped out after every loss.

He’s trying to come off as a good guy. Stamps has basically opted out and is going to transfer.

He should be looking for a way to get Stamps off the roster as fast as possible, he’s just taking a spot a useful player could occupy

Makes no sense. They should both be candidates to play the star position and let Perkins play rush end.

He’s not the problem. O Line is terrible. Could he be more mobile yes but he is not the problem. When he was upright and had time he looked like old Nuss Saturday.
