ESPN updated their 2024 Way-Too-Early College Football Top 25 rankings this week following wild times in the transfer portal and coaching carousel.

LSU landed at No. 12 in the rankings. Here's what Mark Schlabach had to say about the Tigers:
quote:

12. LSU Tigers
Previous ranking: 14
2023 record: 10-3, 6-2 SEC

Winter update: There's no question the Tigers are going to miss Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Jayden Daniels and their pair of 1,000-yard receivers, Malik Nabers and Brian Thomas. Denbrock returning to Notre Dame doesn't help, either. But at least the Tigers have an apparent quarterback in waiting in Garrett Nussmeier, who was MVP of the ReliaQuest Bowl after passing for 395 yards with three scores in a 35-31 victory over Wisconsin. Transfers CJ Daniels (Liberty) and Zavion Thomas (Mississippi State) are proven receivers. Brian Kelly took big steps toward fixing a woeful defense by cleaning house on his staff. Plucking Baker from Missouri was a good move. The Tigers added three players from the portal -- cornerback Jyaire Brown (Ohio State) and safeties Austin Ausberry (Auburn) and Jardin Gilbert (Texas A&M) -- to help a surprisingly porous secondary.

Because Ole P*^ did so well in the portal ( recruiting HS kids is no longer a good thing) they get this higher ranking. I reckon we will see after the LSU game in Tiger Stadium

I am predicting another 10-3 season. With a tougher schedule, this is a step up from last year. I think we drop the USC game, but get things rolling after that. I also believe we get revenge from last year’s Ole Miss loss.

Cool. Very meaningful.

Clown poll. Notre Dame should be no higher than 16 after that performance last year. But of course, they're ND so they get the pass.

Im ok with 12. We lost alot and had a horrible D last year. Preseason 12 is actually giving the Tigers and Kelly alot of respect

It's a surprise they don't have Choklahoma in the top five like every year.

Notre freaking Dame ranking tells you all you need to know about this poll.

Without the help of officiating, Notre Dame would be 500 + 1 game team.

ESPN hates LSU. Utah 5 and Ole Miss at 6 are a crock. Mizzou lost critical coaches and players. We'll see....

The Ole Miss (#6) melt gonna be epic, have not even won SEC since 1963! All those big egos do not work ask A$M, especially in Oxford...

A lot of ignorance went into that poll! I think my wife could do a better job at the top 25.

this same poll has ND at 5 at Utah, Bama, Mizzou, and Penn State in the top 10.

How could you possibly take it serious?
