New LSU quarterback Sam Leavitt was picked as the most important transfer for the 2026 class, according to CBS Sports.

LSU edge rusher Princewill Umanmielen landed at No. 13 on the list.

1. Sam Leavitt, QB, LSU

Former school: Arizona State

Lane Kiffin requires a tone-setter at the game's most important position, and the Tigers' top-ranked portal class begins with this former Arizona State star under center. He's battle-tested after appearing in the playoff two years ago, confident and wired for big moments -- exactly what Kiffin wants at quarterback in Baton Rouge. Receivers get better opportunities, the run game benefits from balance and LSU's playbook opens up with Leavitt back there. In a league where quarterback play defines contenders, this was a statement move with real postseason implications.

LSU has a MINIMUM of 4 of the top 25. Seaton and Benefield at KEY positions...especially Seaton at LT...are both rated first round draft picks. To then not list them in the top 25 transfers tells me that this CBS staff reporter is mathematically and logically challenged. To omit those 2 is utter ignorance.

It’s a list of most important transfers, but the best.

You can be in the top 25 talent without it being a top 25 single most influential transfer. Seaton alone isn’t going to make or break the team. Sam could.
