LSU coach Brian Kelly spoke with reporters on Monday and was asked about the ongoing competition on the offensive line heading into Week 1 against Clemson.

Kelly has yet to name starters at left guard or right tackle, and said Monday that they could play as many as eight offensive linemen...
quote:

"You are going to see more than just five guys out there," Kelly said. "You will see at least six or seven, possibly as many as eight, offensive linemen playing for us. It's ok to rotate offensive linemen. They can do that too."
When specifically asked about the competition at left guard, Kelly talked about the strengths of Paul Mubenga, DJ Chester, and Coen Echols:
quote:

"Paul actually moves very well for us. He can handle movements, and he's been more consistent from that standpoint."

"With DJ, you love the fact that he has played so much football for us last year. Now, he's in a new position, but we like his size, smarts, and experience."

"With Coen, he's physically strong, so if he gets into a one-on-one matchup against an elite defensive tackle, he can hold his own physically."

"Each one of them brings a little bit to the table, and that's why you will most likely see them all play."
As for the right tackle spot, Kelly said last week that competition is ongoing between Weston Davis and Carius Curne.

Rotating means it will come down to running or passing situations. Some OL block better with the pass rush and some OL are better at run blocking. Keeps them fresh.

that tendency wouldn't be too obvious to Clemson coaches or anything.....

So, DJ isn't actually good, but he is big and played last year? I've seen enough with him, no more.

He was out of position last year.

So, depending on how bad the Clemson d line is mauling the o line. BK will send in bigger stronger players (Curne/Echols) Got it.
