Former LSU Football player and current ESPN analyst Booger McFarland appeared on the Andy & Ari podcast this week and shared his message to all LSU coaches. Per On3:
quote:

“Every coach that comes to LSU, I tell them all the same thing: ‘I’m loyal to the three letters, not to you,'” he said. “So you’re always going to get honest from me because I am loyal to my program because I want to see those kids win and I want to see LSU be successful. So when I text any of them going all the way back to Les Miles and even now to (Brian Kelly), I text them from a football analyst standpoint of what I see and it’s the pure, honest truth.

“Sometimes it’s, ‘I love how you did XYZ’ or something it’s ‘You know what? This was poor.’ What you did, how we played, what we’re doing is not good enough. So I think as a coach, you can respect it, or at least I hope he does. BK and I’ve got a good relationship. I think he’s openly said he came to LSU for a opportunity to win a championship. So what I’m saying and what I text him, there’s no secret. What’s already known doesn’t need to be said.”

NFL players know football better than most people who have never played in the NFL. Many may not be able to inspire and lead players like great coaches. But, to survive any length of time in the NFL requires a PHD level training in athletic conditioning, sports psychological preparation and football X’s and O’s for their position, which is impacted by every other 10 positions on their side of the ball. Those NFL analyst know more than most college coaches. But, Kelly is not just any college coach. He is on the elite level.

He needs to change his name. I hate the name McFarland.

Big Mac knows football in and out. Any LSU coach should welcome his input.

Say what you want about Booger, but I have not seen anything to believe he is nothing but ALL LSU. I remember vividly in the NCG vs CU, late 2d qtr when JB scrambled to inside the 20 to set up another TD. Booger was right there in the out of bounds area (in his purple pants & white/purple checkered shirt) cheering on his Tigers. I can't help but believe he is pretty happy to see how this offseason is going for the program.

AI: Booger likes the Tigers and Brian Kelly but is only loyal to LSU.

He's played the game and now talks about the game on TV and somehow that makes him know more than a coach who does it for a living?

And yes, I'm aware he didn't implicitly say that.

Yes. He knows just as much if not more.

What he’s saying is he has done what we all wish we could do - text honest harsh words to the coach.

As he should, that’s what has kept LSU from being elite, mediocre defensive play for all 3 years.
