BATON ROUGE, La. – The LSU men’s basketball team defeated Southeastern Louisiana, 78-65, on Friday night in the Pete Maravich Assembly Center.
With the victory, LSU improves to 10-1 overall, while SLU falls to 4-8 on the season.
In the first half, the Tigers dominated most of the game using a 23-6 run to steal the lead at the 13:06 mark. SLU steadily came back after Peter Hemschemeier made two treys and two free throws. LSU shot 16-of-27 (59.3%) from the floor, while SLU went 14-of-28 (50%). The Tigers drained six three-pointers to the Lions five. LSU built a 14-point advantage going into intermission.
In the second half, SLU held the Tigers to 28 points, yet LSU maintained their lead to clutch the win. LSU made 9-of-19 (47.4%) field goals, three from the arc. SLU recorded 10-of-28 shots for 35.7 percent with 16 rebounds, including 10 on the defensive end.
Marquel Sutton led the Tigers in scoring with 19 points on 7-of-9 shots to go with 9 rebounds. Michael Nwoko earned 18 points on a perfect 6-of-6 shooting performance. Max Mackinnon and Dedan Thomas Jr. tallied 14 points.
The Lions were led by Peter Hemschemeier and Makhi Myles with 15 points.
The Tigers are back in action Monday, Dec. 22 as they return home to face Prairie View. The game will tip off at 6:00 p.m. CT at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
