LSU Assistant Coach Eric Musselman Is A Candidate For HC Job At San Diego

On Monday, The University of San Diego fired head basketball coach Bill Grier after just eight season with the school.

Multiple sources are now reporting that LSU assistant basketball coach Eric Musselman, who is a USD alum is a popular name to replace Grier as head coach.

The leader in the clubhouse. He’s in his first year as an assistant at LSU after spending two years in a similar capacity at Arizona State. But he’s a USD alum, having played there in the mid-1980s, and has a long history as a head coach at the pro level, including the NBA’s Golden State Warriors and Sacramento Kings. He was most successful one step below, compiling a 400-155 record in U.S. minor leagues (CBA, USBL, D-League) where you have unlimited roster turnover. He is known as shrewd tactician and excellent game coach (he’s already had more than 900 games as a head coach, and he just turned 50), and he has privately coveted – and pursued – the USD job for years.
