Former LSU player and current Philadelphia 76ers guard Ben Simmons was named NBA Rookie of the Year on Monday night.

Simmons was drafted No. 1 overall by the 76ers in the 2016 NBA Draft but missed his first season due to a foot injury. He returned last season, averaging 15.8 points, 8.2 assists, and 8.1 rebounds per game.

He becomes the first former LSU player to win the award since Shaquille O’Neal took home the honor back in 1993.

Former LSU player Antonio Blakeney was named NBA G-League Rookie of the Year back in April.

Half assed his way through the season. Never considered him to be a Tiger.

"played at LSU"??? You mean he loped up the court at half speed, through a couple of passes, then raised his hand to come out of the game. Is that considered "playing"??

I have mixed feelings. He was wasted under Johnny, but he probably wouldn't have come here if Johnny hadn't fallen arse-backwards into getting him. Either way, his presence exposed Johnny's shitty coaching, so we should thank Ben. He delivered us unto Wade.

lol. Kids come to LSU to play for free while the University and NCAA profit immensely of of their likeness. And then you morons bitch and complain when they leave when they're allowed to, to go and make some money of their own. God this community is stupid.

No, this moron bitches and complains because he loafed it the season he was here AND talks shite about LSU. Nor does he ever rep LSU. He does nothing to help the program. And I know LSU BB does not compare to the likes of Kentucky, Kansas, Duke, but those boys are always talking up their schools long after they are gone. And he is a grade A farqwad to kids (see videos of him swatting/stealing the ball from the ball boys during pregames)... but what do I know, I'm just one of the stupids.

Can you blame him? He was forced to play in college. The biggest racket in the USA.

Boo Hoo PortHudsonPlaya , every player plays by those rules. He could have went overseas and played. Instead he had a pissy party for a whole season then talked shite about LSU once he went to NBA... frick him.

Somebody please explain to me how he is considered a rookie? Shouldn’t 2017 be considered your rookie year if you were drafted in 16? This makes no sense to me
user avatar
whoisnickdoobs83 months
Because he didn't play in any games, but yeah... he's not really a rookie. He had an advantage over real rookies by attending practices, team meetings, learning plays, traveling with the team etc.
