This is what sports is about. Check out Eufaula (Ala.) senior Terrell Jones talk about his coach, Michael Smith, after a one-point overtime loss in the Class 5A Alabama State title game...

Sylacauga’s Aggies battled back from an 11-point third-quarter deficit to nip Eufaula 79-78 in overtime to claim the Class 5A boys’ state basketball title at the BJCC Legacy Arena Saturday morning. Eufaula (29-10), coached by Michael Smith, battled back on a jumper by Terrell Jones with 40 seconds left in the period and a rebound and put-back by Marquise Jones with five seconds remaining to send the game into overtime. Aggies senior Darian Garrett sank two free throws with 55 seconds left in OT to make it 79-75. The Tigers got one last chance with four seconds left but closely guarded shot was off its mark. The championship was the second in school history for Sylacauga.

GREAT story. That is the impact a good strong role model can have on a young man. Way to go coach.

No doubt that a coach can be a good strong role mode. On the other side of the coin, really crappy coaches can mess a kid up in the head bad. There are more BAD negative coaches than the positive ones that make an impact in somebody's life. Sadly, the bad ones are too ignorant to remotely see their anger and personal deficiencies as human beings.

The emotion on that coaches face as he knows how much he's impacted this kid, and he knows this kid cares as much for him as he does his players.... That right there is everything in coaching, especially before the money and exposure of the college game corrupts everything. And this kid gives me so much hope for the future since most of what we see from other kids his age are them eating tide pods. This kid is going to do great things and make a lot of positive impacts on a lot of people in his time. Hopefully I hear his name again.
