Overall, SEC defenses haven't had much to show for so far this season. Alabama gave up a rare 48 points and 647 total yards to Ols Miss last weekend in a win. ESPN’s College Football Live, college football analyst and former Crimson Tide QB Greg McElroy explains what he thinks are the team's defensive issues...

“Tackle,” McElroy said. “Let’s start there. I mean fundamentals of tackling and getting off blocks. It’s really that simple. Alabama obviously has a remarkable amount of talent. They have a ton of athleticism in their front seven. However, sometimes when you have athleticism like Alabama does, you have a tendency to occasionally play out of control. Guys aren’t necessarily doing a great job of being mindful of the scheme they’re being asked to be in. They’re using that athleticism, and we honestly have to give credit to Ole Miss, who took advantage of Alabama’s aggressiveness and won one-on-one matchups and did a great job with yards after catch throughout the course of a 60-minute game.
“Is this a problem for Alabama? Yes. It is, but it’s also something that can be improved week in and week out as long as the guys understand their role within the scheme. Right now, there’s too many individual guys that are trying to make plays on the ball that are being too aggressive, and as a result that aggressiveness is being used against them.”
