No arm strength problem. He's working on his accuracy and touch so that he doesn't overthrow every time.

Biggest factor there is timing, which is why I think we ought to pick a guy and stick with them as the starting QB. I'd like for Eason to get the job and get his experience in this season. He'll only get better with reps. His timing will only improve by throwing to receivers often.

I agree completely. I think to the chemistry between Stafford and AJ/MoMass and Murray-AJ/Mitcell/Conley. That takes reps to develop.

Not sure about his arm strength but he has not been close to accurate on several of his long passes. I'm going to go on record saying I still believe we would be better off with a mobile QB. Alabama is a prime example. They have gone from a mediocre offense to a dynamic offense with Jalen Hurts at the helm.

With our pass protection the more mobile the better.

You can tell he has the arm strength by watching the intermediate throws. They're on a rope. He doesn't need to arch them to get them where they need to be.

The big thing I have noticed so far is the number of his deeper throws that don't have a good spiral. That can impact accuracy and catchability.

He has a good arm. He needs people to get open and needs to see the field and read his progressions. That improves with experince, but it is not a guarantee. There are dudes with rocket arms who can't see the field.

His vision needs to improve as well as his pocket awareness and patience to go through his progressions. All of that should improve with more reps.

If not? Fromm is a year away. And so on and so forth.

That's great and all but we don't have that luxury right now

I think he's got the arm strength but his deep passes are surprisingly ugly for such a highly touted QB. The way they wobble in the air they look to be on the verge of being the proverbial "dead duck" throws. He has nice tight spirals and velocity on his short to intermediate throws and nice touch on his screen passes so I think he's either feeling pressure when throwing the deep balls due to his waiting around in the pocket or he's trying to aim the ball instead of just throwing it, which could be screwing up the way the ball is rolling off his fingers.

His wobbles are probably coming from bad mechanics and thinking about it too much. He'll get there.

That's classic throwing off back foot... Someone post a YouTube link to confirm.

I do recall seeing a couple of throws off his back foot. I wasn't paying much attention to it but it seemed obvious on at least one throw.

It's easy to tell Eason has been throwing off his back foot for a good majority of his deep throws. He just needs to quit being jerked around between 1st and 2nd team and Kirby just needs to go all in on Eason. The sooner the game can slow down for him the sooner his mechanics will clean up and we'll see better pocket presence and overall play.

He could also use an O-Line to keep defenders out of his face and give him time to check down

I agree. Eason's arm looks average at best. I don't know what happened. I'm speculating either a sore shoulder or technique affected by lifting.

Benching him for the rest of the game, immediately following his first INT bothers me more than anything.
I agree especially knowing that the INT was a tipped ball and not entirely his fault.

He's actually appeared to overthrow receivers as much if not more than underthrow them. That's been my observation, at any rate.

I've seen him overthrow the short to medium passes...not so much the long passes. that's what had me concerned. You all could be right, though....it could be a matter of timing. When I played, it was difficult for me, as a receiver, to gauge the arm strength of the QB. I tended to underestimate the arm strength at the next level, and did not go as hard as I could until I got acclimated to it. It could be Eason is experiencing just the opposite and is underestimating the speed of his receivers.

Like I said....when he overthrows, it is usually on short to medium routes and when he underthrows it seems it is on long routes. However....I am not discounting what you guys are saying and believe that i could be overreacting. I mainly wanted to get the opinions of you guys, to see if you are getting a different idea. Some seem to be agreeing with me, and some disagreeing.

I may be mistaken, but weren't at least one of those overthrown?

You could be right. i don't remember one that was overthrown.....wait....NC I think there was one, but the one I am thinking about was just poorly thrown in general.

Actually, this is exactly what I was thinking/fearing. With the weight he put on from weight training, I was afraid he might have hurt his arm a bit, or perhaps overtrained. Something that would improve with time, hopefully.
