You very well could be right. It's really hard to say. However, in the long run, don't you think the added experience will work in our/their favor?

Very likely, but for the strength of this 2016 team, it hurts.

This is why I say I expect a big jump next year. Our 2015 and 2016 classes were highly rated and will have played a ton of football. Then, you throw in a few good seniors and another very highly rated class into the mix. UGA could be very good if they can find an OL.

We shouldn't have signed a 32 man 2013 class comprised of like 20 players who would never contribute in any way. We should have signed more players talented enough to hold off talented freshmen.

And hindsight is ALWAYS 20/20 especially dealing 18 and 19 year old kids. How many times are you gonna get your panties in wad about this class?

Hell it cost CMR his job...didn't you want him gone anyway?

We're discussing why people made comments about the talent on this team. That class is relevant to the discussion.

I was sort of indifferent. I thought we needed to get the talent level back up before we would win anything, no matter who the coach was.

If we don't see a big jump next year I will be criticizing Kirby again.
I think we see a big jump. The defense, this year, has been a real eye opener for me. They have made big strides. I think we have found a good one in Mel Tucker. I know a lor of people will give Kirby most of the credit....but I think Tucker gets most of the credit. A Head Coach just doesn't have the time to concentrate on his job and a coordinators job like a lot of people claim. I know it happens some...but those are rare and far between.

For instance...I do believe Malzahn keeps his hands firmly planted in the Auburn offense. And I think Muschamp stays focused on his defense. But those two get very mixed and uneven results.

I've butted heads a lot with Crow and WG this year over Kirby's performance. However, those are two posters that....if they say something, I take it at face value. I find them to be fair and evenhanded. We don't always see eye to eye, but I have absolutely no issues with their opinions at all. (FTR, there are 2-3 more posters on this board that I feel the same about....but that's about it.)

I will own up to it when you prove it. Only thing I remember saying was 2015 was our easiest schedule since the mid 90's. I also know I made specific comments about the talent and experience balance that you likely misread.

but we are all talking about overall talent. Does not matter what year the talent is in. Nobody making the statements above differentiated on what class the talent was concentrated in. And, I would argue strongly the 2010 team had less talent for starters.

Yes it does matter what year, especially when it comes to seniors and freshmen.

2010 team had Glenn, boling, jones, green, Rambo, Williams, Boykin, King, Washington, dent, and Houston.

This thread has gone off the rails, but to try to get it back on topic here is what I'd guess our starters will look like in '17, assuming nobody goes pro (so obviously carter/bellamy/others may not be here IRL). I also didn't include any incoming TFr since they aren't here yet.

DL- Thompson
DT- Atkins
DL- Ledbetter

Depth: Rochester, Hawkins, Marshall, Barnett, Carter, Clark, Young

OLB- Carter
ILB- Patrick
ILB- Smith
OLB- Bellamy

Depth: Carter, Walker, Roundtree, Brown, Laguins

CB- Parish
CB- Baker
S- Sanders
S- Davis

Depth: Briscoe, Choates, Hardman, McGraw, Wilson

That's a damn stout defense, and I'd expect year 2 to see big strides in a lot of these guys. IF we can get adequate OL play we could be in good shape for the east.

Check my list of quotes I posted to Gurley Gurl and get back to me. A good portion of those quotes were from you.

Which quotes? And what was the context? I am sure I explained with details you are leaving out.

Yeah he did, and we have to at least try and keep up or we won't be close to a SEC title until he retires. That's why Kirby is here.

As for the 2017 defense, it could be great if the pass rush improves. I think the DL/MLBs will be outstanding and the secondary will be good enough to hold up as long as opposing QBs don't get 10 years to throw.

Any word on Sanders leaving early? I thought I had read it somewhere earlier in the year

His production is WAY down from last season, he is hurt and he is graded as 7th round pick at best. He would be crazy to leave. He could have bounce back season behind that front 7 next year.

I went back and got quotes. They are on the previous page.
You said both f these:

Overall? Worst since 96.

Please find me a worse roster since 2000 and prove me wrong then.

I've spent way too much time looking up posts that so many people on here refuse to remember that they made.

Here is an in general comment about our weak roster. Note there is no specific reference to position, but roster in general.
Yes, it's on the coaches who assembled this roster. It's a weak roster.
LINK

I could go further and find posts you made saying Blankenship was a horrible kicker and Richt is the blame for that. I am now wondering how many people on here want to give Richt credit for signing Blankenship, while Smart brought in Hamm?

Excellent depth. It's funny, though. We all thought the depth on the DL was going to be a huge problem, and that is turning out to be a strength. the young guys have all come on strong. The coaches have done a good job of getting them prepared and putting them ina position to succeed.

Is Choats coming back for sure? I know he is taking a break for academics right now.

I spent 2-3 hours yesterday to prove to Gurley Gurl a lot of that stuff was said, so I had a general idea of where to look this morning. But I really don't want to wade through all that again. It was murder, and I would almost just as soon take a sharp stick to my eye than do that again!

I tried doing it once or twice but couldn't find a way to go back that far in the timeline and just gave up.

Exactly. No doubt we should get more of a pass rush next year, and that will make the QB throw the ball up for grabs more often, giving him more opportunities to make some picks.
