Could we return 11 starters in our base 3-4 defense?
Mauger is a senior but has rarely started this year
Maurice Smith is starter at nickel
Everyone else returns, correct?

Defense will be top 5 in the country next year. Just need the other side of the ball to step up

Trent Thomson will be a 1st round pick in 2018. One of Smart's best recruits so far.

So plug in someone (in this instance, I'll say Rico McGraw, since all signs indicate he would have been the starter if Mo Smith hadn't been able to transfer) like Rico or I'll throw Lecounte in there for shrits and gigs.
And for Nickel, I'd imagine Aaron Davis or Deandre Baker.
Isn't John Atkins a senior? I guess he wouldn't be a starter as of this last week, but he has been for much of the season.

No way, the internet says the cupboard was bare and I believe it.

Atkins is a Jr.
I can maybe see Carter leaving after this season, but that's it besides the Seniors.
This defense on paper next year should be pretty damn good... few question marks on the back end and at pass rush but with the D-line freshmen getting an offseason under their belts and with Roquan Smith/Natrez Patrick getting more experience, our front 7 should be TOUGH

unless he absolutely plays out of his mind over the last three games, I don't think he leaves. He has enough questions that not even his crazy athleticism can overcome.
No more than a 4th rounder at this point, in my opinion.

John Atkins is a Junior/Starter. Loaded with Freshmen and sophomores who will be bigger, stronger and more experienced, the Defense should be bad arse. Come on Oline

Wonder what kind of role Hardman will play next year?

I think he's got to be having trouble picking up the playbook. He's got to have some of the best ball skills on the team. I think he could be a lockdown corner and could have some explosive plays on offense every once in a while.

DL has come on very strong this year. They could be scary good next year.

According to CKS Hardman basically played mostly qb and receiver in high school so basically has to learn dB from the basics.

Hardman is returning kickoffs now, which is encouraging.

He is a sophomore. Internet has been talking about juniors and seniors.

"Internet" was also saying the was the "worst roster since the mid-90's" and the "worst roster in the 2000's"
And I also heard on the internet how horrible our db's were...of course that criticism didn't take place til AFTER the OM game.Didn't hear a peep during the pre-season.
Oh,how bout the O-line? While they weren't great they sure as hell were much better...170+ LOS yards rushing vs the most talented D-line we'll face this year.Better totals than Mizzou,UF and Vandy. How'd that happen?Did guys with 66 starts going into the season all of a sudden improve by leaps and bounds the last 3 weeks?

Someone mentioned last week that they noticed simplified blocking schemes, but they still weren't really good Saturday. Montravious Adams lived in the backfield

No doubt but far better than earlier in the year. Our RB's weren't consistently getting hit behind the LOS.You're right about pass protection but at least 3 of AU d-linemen will be playing on Sunday and 2 will be 1st rd picks.I'd hate to see what would have happened had we played AU in September.
