Again, you show your Bama ignorance. Bama got hammered because it was a recruiting violation. Auburn got slapped because it was made public. Schools did not write down payments to players. The HC was never implicated in the system, it was always assist coaches or staffers who were the go to guys. The NCAA turned a blind eye to it for years and it was at every school.

Hiring Mike Archer over Steve Spurrier or Mike Shanahan in '87.

Spurrier was dying to come here and we said "no".

Mike McGee deciding not to host Carolina Panthers' home games their inaugural season was a big mistake.

There might have been a lot more on Dye, but the truth is they didn't have much on him. If you remember the tapes, Ramsey and his wife tried to get Dye to admit to knowing what was going on. He never did. Donald Watkins used the tapes to play Chicken with the AU Administration and they blinked. Again, the NCAA knew their was more to it, but couldn't come close to proven it. That is why they only got 4 scholarships taken from them.

I don't disagree with you but they had just enough to make it stick. As I recall, Ramsey goes in to Coach's office and proceeds to give him his sob story. Dye sort of hems and haws through it an doesn't really say much. A week later some cash via a loan at Colonial is given to Ramsey with some other stuff...

Lowder made Dye resign or it would have gone deeper. Had he not done so, the investigation would have reached the admin. and the BOT and then AU would have had some big time problems. Dye fell on his sword so the NCAA would be satisfied and AU could move on.

Look - Ramsey is a total p.o.s. for he did. I'm hardcore Bama and hated Dye at the time mainly because he beat Bama's arse....but right is right and Ramsey is two-bit weasel for what he did to Coach Dye and Auburn.

Late 1970's former Mizzou chancellor Bab's Uehling. Without a doubt, the absolute worst.

Best - getting out of the B12-2-2+2. MIZ-SEC!

I've always wondered who put Ramsey up to this.

His girlfriend mainly....A lot of their lunatic fans blame Bama boosters but Bama had nothing to do with it.

Ramsey was just an angry bitter guy who couldn't cut it in the NFL and was resentful.

Especially after watching the 30 for 30 dedicated to the Duke Lacrosse debacle...whomever was responsible for hiring Joe Alleva as LSU AD needs to be taken behind the woodshed and beaten senseless.

For Bama it would have to be the Bockrath/Sorenson debacle of running off Gene Stallings

I think hiring bill curry when Bobby Bowden was begging for the job is worse.

Mississippi State hired a former QB Rockey Felker in 1986, who had two years experience under Ray Perkins at Alabama.

The runner up? Steve Spurrier.

Felker started his coaching career 6-0. He lost the last five games in '86, went 4-7 in '87, 1-10 in '88, and had two 5-6 seasons before finally being let go. In his five seasons, he won five SEC games.

Don't know what the Spurrier guy ever did.

Choosing Fran over Urban Meyer was worse.

Yeah but that is pure hindsight. Fran was coaching at Bama, Urban was at Utah. Urban wasn't even a consideration once we had Fran on the line. It would be like saying we should have hired Nick Saban instead of RC Slocum in 1989.

On paper hiring Fran was a big coup for the program. The problem is it didn't work out in reality, and that extension is what kept us from moving on from that mistake.

Yeah but he was taping people before he went to the NFL.

I think somebody was out to get Dye/etc.
