They had Ramsey accepting steaks from a booster and zero on Pat Dye. It cost AU a total of 4 scholarships. Dye could have survived that, but the PTB were a bunch of pussies.

Dye was literally on record coordinating a bank loan for Ramsey at Lowder's bank

Hiring Greg McGarity. It has nearly ruined almost every team that we have.

You can go read all the transcripts on the Ramsey tapes. There is some misinformation in this thread from both Auburn and Alabama fans. I do agree looking back one might think Dye could have survived the fall out, but that is revisionist history. Based on the time and place his resignation was about the only thing that could happen.

Bockrath was a dick! He stormed into the lockerroom after the Miss State game and "demanded" Stallings make a decision. Stallings told him to get his arse out and that he would give him a decision when he was damn well ready.

Close second or 1B would be the handling of Coach Bowden. Bowden had built the reputation of go anywhere and play anyone anytime with FSU. I have an aunt that was a professor there at FSU and she said as much that Coach Bowden went to meet with Dr. Thomas expecting the offer and was going to accept on the spot. When Joab said "interview", Coach Bowden got up and walked out.

Tiger Stadium's south end zone addition circa 1953.

Like many bad decisions, it was a compromise. The original plan was to continue the same look in the south as in the east, west, and north.

Instead, a bare bones addition was erected in order to fund Middleton Library.

So instead of an addition Tiger Fans would have loved, we got two things we hated.

The good news is, the ugly old south end zone exterior is gone now.

And Middleton Library may be gone soon, too.

This hire wasn't bad, it was out of the box though. Not really Mal's fault he did what he did. Now sticking to a strict "Alum's Only" policy and hiring Shula? That was a bad decision.

That is one ugly library.

LOL....it was a little more than steaks.....and he had Dye on tape agreeing to the p4p..

It was shitty what he did but lets not act like Dye wasn't involved in paying players. He got canned to stop the investigation or could have involved SMU penalties if it all came out. It's cool though because he was taken care of to keep his mouth shut. Sucks what happened but ya'll got caught with the hand in the cookie jar.

There might have been a lot more on Dye, but the truth is they didn't have much on him. If you remember the tapes, Ramsey and his wife tried to get Dye to admit to knowing what was going on. He never did. Donald Watkins used the tapes to play Chicken with the AU Administration and they blinked. Again, the NCAA knew their was more to it, but couldn't come close to proven it. That is why they only got 4 scholarships taken from them.

Ray was a place holder. Had little choice as bad a situation as the BB team had become. So, Croom was bad but I would have to make it a tie between hiring Charlie Schira or keeping Larry Templeton as AD as long as we did.

"Might have's" arse!! Terry Bowden's testimony about the "culture" before he arrived showed just how crooked the program actually was. Hell, coach Wayne Hall was the damn BAGMAN who went around paying out the money from the slush fund established by the select elite Auburn boosters (I know Wayne so don't try to tell me shite).
On top of this all, you seem to be proud of the fact that Auburn "got away" with something because Dye wouldn't confess to something that everybody know happened....what a classy guy you are!

Not moving to the SEC when Arkansas left the SWC in the early '90s. They knew the SWC was a dead man walking, but were too chicken to make a bold move. Only took 20 years to rectify.

They had nothing to hammer AU with. We all know how credible Terry Bowden was. I know how Auburn and the rest of the SEC played the game in the 80s, TB wasn't even close.
