How many other schools play universities in basketball or football that they literally own? I can think of Cal playing UCLA, but they are in the same conference.

You're a system school like we are. It only makes sense to play those in the system. It keeps $$$ within, helps improve local programs/helps your system, and gives fans of your school who live or attend your satellite campus a game that's a win-win. We play UTC and others in the system fairly regularly.
