That's a completely different discussion that probably deserves its own time.

It would be a lot more productive than the "Bama is scared" or the "UAB is embarrassed to be associated with Bama" talking points that your fellow posters have created 6 pages of drivel with.

There is some truth to that. Scared is probably not the right word. But you cannot deny Alabama has refused to play UAB. I like Wimp on radio shows these days, but he as much said so in the 80's. I find it sad that the same ones who held grudges 30 years ago still have so much sway today...

Again, as far as being "scared", this is only speculation, but unless it is out of spite --- I cannot fathom why they do not play each other unless it is viewed as high risk/little reward. And let's be honest not doing something because of high risk/low reward can easily be perceived as scared.
Again, I would argue that UAB, AU and ALA all playing each other is good for basketball in the state.

I am also glad that at least today this has been more of discussion than gloating/mocking tornadoes , drug abuse and murder -- so that is some progress.

In case you haven't noticd we just hired a very high profile basketball coach. I actually heard him speak last week with Saban in attendance. The message he wants to send is we are done fricking around in basketball......Read into that what you will....

Spell it out?

Does that mean UA will play UAB?

And Grant looked like a homerun hire at the time so I would hardly say Alabama was not committed to basketball before.

I highly doubt we will ever agree to play UAB unless we see them in the post-season. There is nothing to gain by playing them...

Not a damn thing to be gained by playing UAB in any sport.

I rarely give UAB a second thought - but these Aub's that continue to for knight the Blazers and champion any effort UAB attempts to seperate themselves from the UA System are ridiculous.

Read this in another thread and still applies:

UAB: The "Stand Up Don't Shoot" "Black Lives Matter" cause celebre for Auburn fans.

Alabama fans clearly care enough to respond every single time.

It is a shame the Alabama fan base lacks the maturity the Alabama student body has regarding this matter. The have written many times how UAB is not treated fairly by UA. But then again, that is because they are young enough to believe there is any fairness in this world.

Somebody needs to tell the kids who actually attend Alabama they are just riding the band wagon right?

Again, these are Alabama students writing for the Alabama newspaper, but tell yourself it is all Auburn.

Not sure what maturity has to do with this topic. In fact, the entire intent of the thread was to stir up crap rather than generate "more of discussion" as you say. I went to South Alabama and totally understood why Bama didn't schedule us - there is nothing to gain from it. A lose/lose proposition. You get 30 games or so, who you schedule beyond conference teams is entirely up to the schools. It makes sense to play those schools in baseball and to the decision makers it doesn't in basketball. Pretty simple.

Hope you are doing well HB.

My ideal would be a tournament held in Birmingham with Auburn, UAB, and Bama headlining against the other state schools like Troy, Jacksonville State, Alabama State, A&M, ect. The games are being played anyway so why not combine them in a big tourney at the BJCC after the SECCG to highlight basketball in the state of Alabama? I think it would become a very big deal annually and be fun for the entire state

Why don't y'all go ahead and do this tourney? I see no point in Bama participating, but the rest of you could run with it.

Would give the Auburn folks a great venue to show your support for UAB!

We had a game scheduled with UAB football for this year. All we got was a note begging out of it and a lousy check from Bama.

Yeah you do. You're for any dog fighting the dog that kicks your dog's arse nearly every time they fight.

Get Rep. Jack Williams to introduce this to the Alabama House of Representatives and get the ball really rollin on this thing.

While he's in Montgomery, he can meet with the crooks running Alabama State and if the Hornets have any interest.
