If you're a fan of a team, and their school offers the degree you want, then THERE IS NO EXCUSE for not attending that school. If you're willing to drive 100s of miles and pay for high priced tix to support the team then you should have been willing to sacrifice out of state tuition and attend the school you love, and have no right to talk shite to fans of other schools who did make that sacrifice. Just my opinion.

I don't make the rules.
maybe a more apt statement would have been that college teams with success attract more sidewalk fans which in turn get them labeled as bandwagon fans.

Just FYI, a big chunk of the VU fans who actually attend games did not attend the university. However, many of those fans are employees, friends and family co mingled with sports fans who live and work in Nashville. While not you typical "sidewalk" fan they are also not alumni. If you have been a fan of the Dores over the past 40 years nobody is going to call you a bandwagon fan.

Honestly bro, I dont know how it is in South Carolina, but you would just have to grow up in the state of Alabama to understand what a alabama sidewalk fan is. I know it sounds cheesy, but I was born a Alabama fan, and I never had any other thoughts about being a fan of any other team. Bandwagon fans jump on when you are winning and that's it. Now Alabama has plenty of bandwagon fans.
I know people I grew up with that were Auburn fans their whole lives, until recently.(i'm sure this goes both ways) Which is sad.
I remember when Auburn won 6 straight, and I never once thought, hey I'm gonna be a Auburn fan, I just got more and more upset with our team.

Half of every SEC team's stadium would be empty without sidewalk fans.

That's kinda what I meant. Arkansas is the same way in that you are born into being a fan whether you go to school there or not.

And it's not. Mississippi State has no bandwagon fans but plenty of sidewalk fans.

I know people who never gave a shite about football, then they go to a university, and all of a sudden they are the "real" fans. But i'm a mississippi state bandwagon right now, hail state in the CWS.

It's not school spirit to pretend no one else can be a fan unless you went to school there. Not saying every alum does that. Did I hit home for ya mw?

I'm not disagreeing with you I'm just pointing out that many become fans of schools when they go there. I know plenty of people who grew up UA fans, graduated from UA, but go to graduate school elsewhere and have split allegiance because of it.

I know tons of Alabama fans that attend Auburn aswell. It's in the blood wether you can admit it or not. School spirit is very understandable though.

I see you are from houston, my parents live in houlka, put it this way, you live right beside it and you still may not know where it is.

I guess I would be considered a sidewalk fan, but I think there are varying degrees of these. I put my money where my mouth is, as we have been long time season ticket holders and Grove Society donors. Our daughters also have bricks in The Walk of Champions.
So I'll proudly wear the title of sidewalk fan.

Poster said that on the first page and I totally agree. I am and was a raging Alabama fan even through the shite days of Alabama football. And I don't attend college either. Of course, all the people on this site that aren't Alabama fans are going to call us this because it makes them feel better about themselves because that's the only thing they can claim while their team is routinely getting bent over year after year
Jesus that was a run on from hell
