Johny football may not even be one of the Top 5 QBs in the 20 years let alone the best player. The dude is too short and takes to many chances . johny football maybe the most overrated and over hyped player in the SEC over the last 20 years.

He won the Heisman as a redshirt freshman Overated? GTFO

Congrats on being down voted to oblivion.

Isn't Freshmen All-American LITERALLY an all-star?
He was also 1st team All-SEC as a sophomore

Even Dak maybe better.
I actually agree with this

Dak was a gamer for sure. Dude is going to be overlooked because of the teams he played on unfortunately.

his OL knew how to block for him that's why he had that amount of time..
He did have a great OL. 1st rounders at both OT spots and multiple NFL players in the inside as well.
But to say that's the only reason he had so much time is a little ridiculous. Cam and Tebow were both great at avoiding pressure and extending time in the pocket, but that's the one attribute JFF has over them. Manziel is the slipperiest bastard I've ever seen
(Nick Marshall came close in slippery factor though)
BUT on the flipside there is also a gif of those plays failing for him
And one illustrating how long his OL gave him in the pocket
And just for posterity:

STATS
He had 1400 rushing yards and 3700 passing yards with 9 ints and 26 TDs his RS Freshman year.
Cam threw for 1000 less yards and the rushing numbers are almost a wash.
Tebow's sophomore rushing stats aren't close to Newton/Manziel. He's also about 500 yards lower than JFF in total passing yards.
JFF was an animal.

This is the one. The fumble was a great play but this throw is big time. Tebow can't make this throw.

You do realize that half the negative GIFs you show are defenses playing contain because they had to because of his escapability?

Hate to break out this line, but it's not all about statistics.
Statistics are a tool used for analysis, but they are to be taken in context. If Cam Newton, Johnny Manziel, and Tim Tebow all played on the exact same teams and against the exact same schedules, we'd be comparing apples to apples.
Not only that, but the ability to play well in big time games matters. The LSU losses hurt the perception of Manziel, and rightfully so. The Florida loss had him looking pretty mortal as well. Also, how often did the QB in question accumulate garbage time points? I know Cam came out in Auburn's blowouts, no idea about Manziel tbh.
I watched all three play, and if I'm making a team from scratch it's Cam Newton, Tim Tebow, then Manziel. Dak Prescott and Peyton Manning could also fit into the discussion somewhere.

You can't claim that he was a great passer when LSU shut him down every year by keeping him in the pocket.
His improv is what made him great, not his skill as a passer. If he was a great passer, he would have thrown for 400 yards on LSU every year because we let him stand in the pocket and throw.

Wasn't the Florida loss his 1st or 2nd game? Really? That made him look mortal?

Lol Dak couldn't even hold Johnnys jock in college. College. What the discussion is about. Not the NFL.
Not saying Dak wasn't an amazing player, he was just not as good as Johnny in college. Eye test, stats, whatever criteria you can think of. End of discussion.
I'll just highlight MSUs magical season where they went to the orange bowl and had the #1 ranking. What we're the best wins? 8-5 Auburn and LSU?
Now on topic. My list would be Cam, Johnny, Tebow.
Cam: No explanation really. Dude is a monster. Underrated as a passer during his one season. Godly runner, and a legend for his wins against Bama and Oregon.
Johnny: The magic of his 1st season. He turned plays that were going no where into something. Yes he had an NFL supporting cast, but A&M had no depth. That 2012 team had no depth and that could be seen with the seasons afterward.
He actually improved as a pocket passer his 2nd season. He had a crazy completion percentage from the pocket. But he had a non existent defense, and succumbed to a hand injury against Auburn.
Tebow: He had the leadership, he had all the awards and championships. But let's face it. He had an amazing supporting cast. Urban Meyer, amazing career at Utah, Fla, and now Ohio st. Floridas defense was very good in 08. Percy Harvin was amazing, He was the difference against OU. In terms of personal skill that's why I feel he's behind Johnny, especially as a passer.

Way too smart for this board. Bowl Jackson is now in a corner sucking his thumb

Cam had an extra game. He played in the SEC championship game.
Manziel still passed for about 900 yards more, and the rushing stats are almost identical.
As for winning, Manziel had a good line, Mike Evans and Swope, but they had a mediocre defense at best.
Auburn had a great defense with Cam.

Lol at this garbage time claim.
Manziel threw for 464 yards with 5 TDs and 2 INTs and rushed for 98 yards versus Bama. They scored 42 points. He completed 72% of his passes that day. He torched the hell out of Bama in 2013. Lol
Bama just scored 49 points because AM had no defense.
You people don't get how good this guy was. He threw for over 4000 yards his sophomore year. Granted, he started to get crazy this year off the field, but he was a monster. If he could have kept his head on straight, he could have made it in the NFL.

What was the most wins he led the aggies to? The best player in the league should do better than what he did.
Posted on 5/26/17 at 3:22 pm to Keltic Tiger
He had a mediocre defense his first year and a putrid defense his second year
That's the reason they didn't win more
Also winning doesn't diminish a great individual player in football. This isn't basketball where Michael Jordan played with 4 other players, and you also play defense.

Are you serious? Did you even watch Auburn play?
The defensive line was good and they had a good MLB. The OLBs were meh and the secondary was absolutely trash. Not just bad, terribad.
What a retarded thing to claim.
