Fans can talk about our TEAM underachieving and blah blah, but as far as a JOB, of where a coach would look if looking for a new gig, there really is no way around it.

You forgot the beautiful ladies in Athens. We got more than just high school talent.

I can't understand all the Michigan support. They have 11 recognized NC's by the CFDW, but only 1 since the Truman administration, and that one was split.

Why Ohio St ? Ohio is not the greatest recruiting hotbed. Look at what it take to be successful since Woody Hayes was there.

Now that most of the country's population is shifting toward the South, those Big 10 jobs are going to get much harder.

I think you are under selling both Ohio and Alabama's in state talent. Neither are TX, CA, FL. But they are right there in the next tier.

I mean if we are talking schools where coaches can succeed, yeah Alabama is up there, but if we are talking fanbase or living locale, Alabama isn't in my top 50.

Lets be honest, if you are a top college football coach you don't have a lot of downtime to enjoy the community. During the season you are living under your desk, and during the offseason you are vacationing with the family in exotic locals to make up for abandoning them during the season.

Texas
USC
Alabama
Oklahoma
Ohio State
LSU
Florida State
Georgia
Florida
Oregon

Texas is the premier university in a state that produces a ton of talent. It's only a matter of time before they are back in the top ten regularly.

Alabama has instate competition for recruits, and Ohio St is having to go outside the state more due to the economy in Ohio. TX,USC, UGA, and FL do not have to leave their State to have a top 5 recruiting year. Can you say that about any other Programs. Maybe on off years with FSU and A&M.

I don't think that's all of it. I think a lot of coaches stick in a particular school they have established themselves because they are the greatest coach that school has had.

Notre Dame, Penn St, Alabama, those schools I would never want to coach at because no matter how successful, could never become the legend. Sounds pretty egotistical upon proofreading, but heck, head coach is a that kind of job.

@cardboardboxer The argument minimizing locale resonates, but dealing with bammer fans? kill me. same goes for LSU

not saying all Alabama or LSU fans are horrible, but lets be honest, the ones you will be compelled to interact with will be the worst, and the worst of those schools. omg.

Got to thinking about this early and was wondering y'all's opinion.

If I were a coach and could choose any university, my list would look something like:
1. Alabama
2. USC
3. Ohio St
4. Texas
5. LSU
6. Michigan
7. Georgia
8. Oklahoma
9. Florida State
10. Notre Dame

Florida/ Miami/ Oregon/ Auburn are honorable mentions.

You really want all opinions?

Okay then .... well, SCAR obviously deserves to be on the list. I mean everything is in place. And something drew Holtz and Spurrier here ... it wasn't my cheery disposition and good looks. Rather it was them both recognizing the potential for something special here .... wanted it to be a part of their legacies.

SCAR will be a coveted job once again ...... once the HBC decides to hang it up and turn it over to someone else. Great facilities, passionate fan base. Loyal following. SEC, etc.

Seriously. I get your list, I do. But IMHO it's based too much on the past. Your Honorable Mentions, less the has-been Miami job, should be in the Top Ten.

Notre Same is probably not Top Ten any longer.

You were catering (sic:sucking-up) to LSU ranters by ranking them do high.

You would have been better-off doing a Top 25. You could have presented it more logically.

1 Bama
2 SoCal
3 Florida
3 Ohio State
3 Michigan
3 Texas
7 Oregon (as long as Phil is alive)
8 Florida State (cushiest job in the country)
9 Tennessee
9 LSU
9 UGA
9 Auburn
13 Notre Dame
14 Oklahoma
14 Texas A&M
16 SCAR
16 Clemson
18 Michigan State
18 TCU
20 Miami
21 Stanford
21 UCLA
23 TCU
24 Baylor
25 Wisconsin
26 Okie State
27 UNC
28 Ole Miss
29 Miss St
30 California
30 Va Tech
30 WVA

LSU and UGA higher than Alabama? I wouldn't even have UGA higher than Auburn. You've got to compete with NFL teams in Louisiana and Georgia. Nothing to compete with in Alabama with the exception of Auburn. Auburn has been much more successful than UGA in the past.

My top 5: 1. Texas 2. USC 3. UGA 4. Ohio State 5. Bama The top 4 are THE state institution in their state, or in Texas, one of two. However, Texas puts out so many college players they can still handpick a lot of great talent

I don't really understand your logic here except for maybe Georgia and Ohio State. I can't argue that Texas, USC, and Bama are not the premier programs in their respective states, but if you're picking schools that actually are "THE" state institution in their states couldn't you have picked a few better options? How could you not include schools like LSU (in the most unbiased way), Oregon, Tennessee,...? Yet you have Texas on top followed by USC? Those two states probably have the most competition of any state except maybe Florida in regards to competing with other schools for in state recruits. Seems quite counter intuitive to me. Enjoy a down vote.

I can't put a Florida school in my top 5 because there are still 3 big time programs in the state, and they get pillaged a ton for players from all the SEC/ACC I would prob have both FSU and UF in my 6-10 though

Yet Texas is your top team followed by USC?

The athletes that those two states produce should keep both of them in the top 5 every year. UGAs problem has been coaching and LSUs has been HS Academics. Everyone wants to give Saban credit for turning LSU around, most do not understand that some of the great LA athletes in the past had to go to other schools to be academically eligible. The State hardened their HS eligibility requirements prior to Saban's arrival.

LSU is actually a top 10 job in my opinion.

Oregon is based on a pretty gimmicky offense, and it attracts a very specific type of coach. Recruiting in Oregon is probably lower third of all states.

Tennessee probably top 15, but I think the dumpster-fire nature of the last decade has really affected national perception. No one was beating down their door for the last two openings. If Texas and USC are hiring, it's a stampede.

What important to me is #1 pay, #2 facilities, #3 recruiting area, #4 exposure.

Pay
1. Bama
2. MSU
3. OU
4. A&M
5. tu
6. tOSU
7. LSU
8. PSU
9. Iowa
10. USCe

Facilities (no order)
Bama
Ark
LSU
tOSU
OSU
UO
USCw
UT
tu
A&M

Our of those the schools that make both top 10s are...
Bama
A&M
tu
tOSU
LSU

I would want to eliminate any area that isn't fertile recruiting ground, but I think they all have strong locations. I'll give a slight edge to the Texas schools because I think Texas, Florida, and Cali are the best closes to recruit followed by Georgia.
A&M
tu

Finally exposure. Again all of my final 5 have great exposure. I'll give an edge to SEC because I think we have the best TV deal. I'll subtract from tu because their network and the Big XII are shitty deals by comparison.
A&M
BAMA
LSU

In conclusion A&M is the best job in the country followed closely by Bama, LSU, tOSU, & tu. (in that order)
