Got to thinking about this early and was wondering y'all's opinion.
If I were a coach and could choose any university, my list would look something like:
1. Alabama
2. USC
3. Ohio St
4. Texas
5. LSU
6. Michigan
7. Georgia
8. Oklahoma
9. Florida State
10. Notre Dame
Florida/ Miami/ Oregon/ Auburn are honorable mentions.

I'd go to Florida before half of those schools. They're easily a top 5 job

I don't know about top 5. Top 10 for sure. I'd put top 5 at Bama, USC, Texas, Ohio State, Michigan (in no particular order) That 5th spot is tricky though.

Which ones? I had Florida originally in Florida States spot but replaced them. Didn't put Florida in Auburns spot because I got lazy and they're about on par to one another.

My top 5:
1. Texas
2. USC
3. UGA
4. Ohio State
5. Bama
The top 4 are THE state institution in their state, or in Texas, one of two. However, Texas puts out so many college players they can still handpick a lot of great talent, and they have more $ (Sorry Aggies I'm not dogging you but I still think the perception is UT is bigger and better). I don't have Bama higher because they at least have to recruit regionally
If I was a coach, I would want to be able first to just recruit my own state, win 70% of those battles for the guys I want, then get some other guys to fill in

Florida State is the best job in the nation right now imo. Very easy to win the ACC with only a handful of teams that can compete year after year and Florida is down. Alabama, Texas, and USC are the highest pressure jobs but highest rewards.

florida is without a shadow of a doubt a top 10 job in CFB.

The problem is the talent from all states aren't equal. There are more national titles won with state of Florida talent than Texas talent. That is why UF is top five.

I can't put a Florida school in my top 5 because there are still 3 big time programs in the state, and they get pillaged a ton for players from all the SEC/ACC
I would prob have both FSU and UF in my 6-10 though

UGA doesn't belong with the rest of those names in my opinion. I'd put Florida there and UGA in honorable mention

I actually pretty much agree with this list. Obviously could be nitpicky about it but it's pretty solid overall.

And I'm trying to put my hatred aside, but Michigan to me is not a top 15 job right now. Not a lot of talent in state, you have to recruit Ohio where OSU is rolling along, and MSU is at its best period in program history and not falling back anytime soon (watch their recruiting over the next 5 days, bringing in 3 studs on the DL)
All time, Michigan is up there, but if I have my pick today, they aren't that high

I'd eliminate OSU, Michigan and Oklahoma for either schitty weather or poor recruiting bases. OSU has a lot of players in-state, but there's still that schitty rust belt weather.
