I'm sure he did this for the most benevolent of reasons.

And I'm sure Lyndon Johnson helped passed the Civil Rights Act because he felt for the struggles of blacks in the South.

Sometimes self-interest and the right thing intersect. Michael Scott would call it a win-win-win.

Doesn't an Alabama fan tearing down one Alabama coach to build up another Alabama coach result in a net zero on the ego scale?

Is that why Bama was one of the last SEC schools with a black player?

Inviting an integrated USC team to Legion Field was pure genius

Bama's team was already integrated by that point.

Pretty much the entire league, especially the Deep South schools, integrated over a 3 year period.

1965 - Kentucky (Northington)

1967 - Tennessee (McClain)

1969 - Auburn (Owens)
1969 - Florida (George/Jackson)
1969 - Mississippi State (Bell/Dowsing)
1969 - Vanderbilt (Stokes)

1970 - Alabama (Jackson)
1970 - Georgia (4 individuals)

1971 - LSU (M. Williams)
1971 - Ole Miss (B. Williams)

We were 6th, and did it one year after 4 other teams.

Bull fricking shite. He had his hand forced:

quote:

Documents released to The Associated Press under the Freedom of Information Act show that for almost two years, agents tracked the suit filed by a prominent black lawyer against Bryant, the University of Alabama and others to make Bryant recruit black football players.

Dye may have been the mastermind, but Bo Jackson was the hitman that pulled the trigger. Bear was found next to an empty bottle of whiskey 2 months after this photo was taken:

That's complete fricking bullshite. He had tried to get some for a few years earlier, but just missed out on them.

No one made him integrate.

only after he got his arse kicked by USC with black players in Birmingham. Alabama was the 7th SEC team to have black players, after Tennessee, Auburn, Kentucky, Florida, Vanderbilt, and Mississippi State
