If we ever get to a point as a fanbase that we are pissed about blowing 3rd downs or late game leads that means we are SO much better as a defense overall that I will take it

Oh, you mean the Mike Sherman years?

Y'all have a ton of talent up front but they are young. Plus you lost an incredible force at linebacker. Y'all will take a hit. I don't think y'all will be giving up 30 points a game or anything.

it's good. i'm not saying it sucks. But our defense is really really good. It's not only good on paper, it's good in the sense that all the players that made it really really good are coming back minus players and the replacements are all upper classmen who played a lot already

You do know A&M won that game 41-38, right?

In the same year your team got sodomized (I know you sips enjoy that) at home by Ole Miss.

You insist on interjecting your irrelevant self into SEC discussions, so here's some attention, sip boy.

Not even close.

Those were the "get out to a big lead then be so stubbornly intent on balancing the playcalling instead of exploiting weaknesses that you turn the ball over multiple times and blow 3+ score halftime leads".

Case in point: Christine Michael had over 200 yards rushing in the first half against Arkansas in 2011. He had ZERO carries in the second half despite an 18 point halftime lead.

That's the only spot that will decline, but we have a TON of young talent at that position. Literally EVERY OTHER POSITION will be improved. We'll be fine.

Plus the DTs will finally have depth, so they won't have to play 75 snaps a game.

I believe Auburn's defense will be in the middle of the SEC. If you look at recruiting our defense is definitely in the top half of the SEC. We have some guys that didn't play last year due to injuries, transfers, or inexperience that will make a pretty big difference this year. Guys like Car Lawson, Tray Matthews, Tre Williams, and Stephen Roberts

Kevin Steele isn't going to lead a top 5 defense, much less number 2. That's laughable.

We will take a hit at MLB but everyone else returns. The only young talent up front will be Tuttle and McKenzie joining that DT group and not because we have to have them but because they should be that good. DEs are Maggitt and Barnett who were one sack or so behind Ray and Golden last year.

Barring mass injury, we will be a whole lot better than last year with a soft spot/questions at MLB.

Mike Sherman didn't get us to the fourth quarter.

Early in his career he would blow games in the first or second quarter, and later in his career he would blow them in the third quarter. In 2010, his best season, he gave up 21 points to Oklahoma State in the third quarter in a loss in a game where we were ahead at half time.

In 2011 Okie State scored another 21 points in the third quarter for the win after being down at the half. That year OU scored 28 points in the Q3, Arkansas scored 10 points in Q3, and Texas scored 17 points in the third quarter to win that game. The third quarter was Sherman's ceiling.

If Chavis gets us over that hump and has us losing games in the fourth quarter it will be a new experience for many Aggies.

Not gonna happen with Sumlin. He loves to throw it around the yard.

I am SO looking forward to a Chavis defense on the field for 35-40 minutes and trying to play press coverage with average corners.

Chavis, Smart, Pruitt, Collins, Muschamp, and Wommack are all MUCH better than Kevin Steele. Lol.

Notable Mike Sherman accomplishments at A&M:

2008 Arkansas State: Led 14-3 at halftime. Outscored 15-0 over the final 20 minutes, including 9-0 the final 5 minutes. 18-14 loss.

2008 New Mexico: Led 21-7 at halftime. Outscored 15-7 in the 2nd half and were an onside kick away from losing. 28-22 win.

2008 Miami: Trailed 24-10 at halftime. Gave up 17 straight points to start the 3rd quarter, down 41-10 midway through. 41-23 loss.

2008 Army: Led 21-7 mid 3rd. Army scored the next 10 points and were stopped on 4th down in A&M territory late to seal the win. 21-17 win.

2008 Texas Tech: Led 23-20 at halftime. Outscored 23-2 in the 2nd half (blocked PAT return). Lost 43-25.

2008 Oklahoma: Outscored 28-7 in the 3rd quarter in the worst loss at Kyle Field in A&M history (66-28)

2008 Baylor: Trailed 20-7 at halftime. Outscored 21-0 in the 3rd quarter.

2008 Texas: Outscored 28-6 in the second half for the 2nd worst loss in the series (49-9).

2009 Utah State: Led 38-17 in the 4th quarter and were an onside kick away from Utah State's game tying drive. 38-30 Win

2009 Arkansas: Led 10-0. Outscored 47-9 the rest of the game.

2009 Kansas State: Trailed 59-0 before scoring the first points. 66-14 loss.

2009 Colorado: Led 21-10 at halftime, 31-21 mid 4th, and 34-28 late before losing to a 2-win team 35-34.

2009 Oklahoma: Trailed 14-10 early 2nd before losing 65-10.

2010 FIU: Needed a furious 4th quarter rally trailing 20-6 to win 27-20.

2010 Oklahoma State: Led 21-7 at halftime. Lost 38-35 on a last second FG.

2010 Missouri: Trailed 23-0 in the 3rd. Lost 30-9. Changed QBs after that game from Johnson to Tannehill.

I won't even mention the epic fail that was the 2011 season.

As I was searching for stats I was thinking "Jeez I could really use The Count to help me on this one."

Thanks.
