Top 6??? So ahead of at least a few of

Alabama
Ole Miss
LSU
Georgia
Florida
Tennessee
Arkansas
Missouri

I think ahead of Florida and Tenn. but that would be #7.

I think that is possible, though I think Tennessee will be pretty stingy on defense this year. Florida loses a ton and has new coaches, so I have no idea what to expect there.

Much closer to reality, imo. BUT I think there's some interchangeability amongst the first seven spots and good arguments for and against a particular place.

Florida is one that I really think is a wild card in terms of where to place them. Their secondary will be stacked once again but how much will the coaching change matter? And of course there's still a few questions to sort out elsewhere. I could see them being much better than number 8.

Yea I have no idea where to put Florida.

I think the 3 are going to be elite and I think Georgia could be. I think Tennessee and Arkansas are both going to be really solid. Missouri will probably be good again, though losing their DC will be interesting. No idea on Florida. Auburn will be better.

God..or even worse...fricking 4th and Chavis. I think opposing teams might have had a 100% 4th down conversion rate against us during his tenure. Ole Miss went something stupid like 5/5 (several being 15+ yards) in 2010, when Miss still sucked and LSU had an NFL D. It was fricking painful.

I think one of our biggest problems on the defense for a decade plus is attitude. I think there has to be more than just technique and Xs and Os, you have to have guys who want to hit people and have their pride tied to making a tackle.

Sumlin is a modern offensive guy, which means he is more about finesse instead of hitting people in the mouth. That is a great fit for the talent available in the state for offense, but it makes for a poor defense. I think that is some of the lack of SEC-nes you saw in our defense the last two years. Snyder wasn't a bad Xs and Os coach, he just didn't have the will to overpower the finesse attitude in the lockerroom. Without the attitude the players weren't able to follow the blueprint because it assumed they came into with something that wasn't there.

The best news out of our Spring ball is that Chief is simplifying things and is focusing on changing the mentality. That is not the kind of thing that can be fixed overnight, but my hope is now failure on the defense can be a motivator instead of a locker room poison. It is hard to field a competitive defense when the players don't think they can do it, no matter how talented your team is. Belief in themselves and each other is how many teams overachieve beyond their talent.

This is my best guess. Top 3 are pretty close and almost interchangeable.

I'm honestly surprised so few have been talking about it.

Imo the Aggies need a power spread run game like Ohio State

Not gonna happen with Sumlin. He loves to throw it around the yard.

we lost 3 good players but we have DL depth and should be pretty good there, and we will have the best secondary we've had since the days of Chris Houston and company

Numbers wise, because we control the ball will have a much better O line and better QB play we'll be top 3 defense. Talent wise / raw ability wise i'd say top 5-6. The thing that we have that bama / ole miss doesn't have is we pound the ball and they don't.

PS - There is no fucing way in hell Tennesse has a better defense than arkansas. I'll give you Ole miss and bama and i see lsu's point but Tennessee get the frick out lol that's a recruiting ranking basis

New coaches yes. Lost Fowler, a DT that was sharing time and 2 linebackers. Secondary is loaded. Coaches have said that the system will stay the same.

That would require actually giving us credit for something.

We don't have the oline to pull that off completely, but be looking for us to run WAY more this season.
