I think most of us would love to, but I know in Kentucky alone now they're requesting public feedback on whether to move Jefferson Davis's statue out of the state rotunda, whether to change the state flag because Daniel Boone and Henry Clay being on it isn't "diverse enough" and because they were slave owners, and we're facing the issue of using tax money in a state that's damn near broke as it is to remove Confederate monuments from "public spaces". None of that was discussed with any seriousness until after what happened in South Carolina.

Whether you want it to be or not, South Carolina will be used going forward as an example of how to handle Confederate monuments and things associated with it because of what happened. People are going to have an interest in it and a reaction to it, because it'll likely foretell how other states will handle the same issue.

They should get gay dudes from the frontier days of Kentucky and put them on there.

Half the people forgot it was there until it became a hot issue again. The other half thought it was still on top of the dome.

You just described the entire population of those in favor of moving the flag. Those clamoring for its removable don't know jack shite about it, which is why a lot of people have an issue taking it down to appease a bunch of mob-mentality lemmings that will forget and move onto the next SJW/progressive witchhunt next week.

Those wanting it to stay are much more knowledgeable about it and its history. Hell, even most of the media coverage I've seen can't get the details correct

I do think that some of this has gone too far. I would have supported them keeping the flags at the graves and some confederate war memorials.

You mean like the confederate war memorial that you're celebrating a flag removal from with this thread?

So the other 49 states, including the other 10 southern states are cowards? Because none of them fly the flag either.

*48 states.

Mississippi is still holding out because we're dicks, and you can suck it.

You'll start seeing more people flying the confederate flag now.

what if the goverment mandated that everyone in the country be given a pigmentation shot and everyone was the exact same color, let's say, an olive skin color. i wonder what would happen then

We'd discriminate based on other physical characteristics and class.

Maybe the rebels were just ahead of their time

well, i know virginia's issues with the union where over state sovereignty, not slavery(mississippi, for example, clearly uses state sovereignty as an excuse for slavery, as it clearly states in its letter of secession). virginia had a lot to lose since they where the most powerful and influential state at the time. slavery wasnt the issue for all states, but was only an excuse for a disingenuous piece of shite like abe lincoln to pull a power grab and centralize the government, big brother at its finest.

R.E. Lee was going to be the commanding general of the union army until virginia decided to fight with the confederacy.

as far as slavery goes, massachusetts was the last state to abolish slavery in 1878, over a decade after the war. abraham lincoln was like everyone else at the time, he thought blacks didnt belong in white society and had plans to send them back to africa en masse before he was shot.

so all this silliness about the rebel flag is fine and dandy, it was only the confederate battle flag because the actual confederate flag looked too much like the u.s. flag at a distance, and could lead to confusion on the battle field, but it has been used A LOT with hate and it doesnt bother me to see it go.

that being said, collectively speaking, we are going full retard on the issue.

American flag, and it's not removed because it is, despite its sometimes ugly history, the official flag of this country. The Confederate flag is the flag of an entity that lost the war 150 years ago. And yes, I know the flag the fight is over currently isn't the official flag of the Confederacy, so save it.

You surely cannot be this ignorant.

Prepare to be amazed

The 1790 federal census, however, listed no slaves. Massachusetts was a center for the abolition movement in the 19th century.

I have no clue, I'm just curious as to how the South Carolina folks feel if they run the stars and bars up the pole

It's fricking bullshite. We should take down the pyramids too, those were built by slaves. You cant discredit history. The Cofederate states were not based on slavery.

No. Never been. I just think taking down a flag that's part of the south and states history is retarded because it's thought to be an offensive racist flag, which it technically isn't.

Sure it is. Read up on the history on how it came to fly at state houses around the South.
