I was saying the only proper place for the flag is a museum.

I know what you were implying.

You're mad, and it's making you slow on the draw.

South Carolina, more than any state, has always taken great pride in their rebelliousness and defiance to authority. Now they have been reduced to cowards, what a sad day.

Little brother syndrome. They feel inferior to North Carolina so they act out.

If it ends at the removal of just the flag. Unfortunately it hasn't and we now have the extreme of city councils voting to remove the bodies of former Confederate soldiers.

I do think that some of this has gone too far. I would have supported them keeping the flags at the graves and some confederate war memorials.

So the other 49 states, including the other 10 southern states are cowards? Because none of them fly the flag either.

I saw a study yesterday that less than 10% of Americans understand what The First Amendment does.

Where did they do that study, who did they ask, etc?? Show me a link of the numbers they polled/areas. Hell I can go somewhere in Joplin/Southwest Missouri and ask whites, you'd get less than 5%.

Maybe the government should make us all wake up every morning and paint our skin the same color. Thats literally the only way racism will ever cease to exist.

What people don't understand it'll never end. Hell look at Eastern Europe, Russia, Middle East, Africa,etc....They can be same color...but they hate/kill over ethnic differences. You'd expect more racism in this country because of the "melting pot". Can't force people to like each other no matter what, it will NEVER happen!

Better not come to Missouri with that B.S. I love the history of this state, don't agree with it...But Missouri is like the outlaw state, they don't give a frick. Confederate memorial and bodies about 7 miles from me.

I can remember going to school in Kansas, hearing the horror stories in history class about Missourians, border ruffians, Bushwackers, etc. That's why I laugh when people call Missouri "yankees". They had some good battles with Kansas and believe me it was over slavery...they're not going to sugar coat it and say "state's rights" Kansas and Missouri people will tell you they fought over slavery, burned towns over slavery, killed people that didn't agree with them.

That type of symbology simply shouldn't be a part of government and I can certainly understand the feelings of people like Carolina Tide (btw, your posts on this subject have been some of the best I've ever read) in that they're proud to see it removed.

Thanks!

Do explain how a state legislature taking down a flag on state grounds limit freedom of expression for individuals in South Carolina.

It doesn't. I agree it has no place on the governmental building but at the same time (here's the free speech part) I loved Kid Rock telling Sharpton or whoever to kiss his arse when told he should remove the flag from his act. I really don't see the big deal here. People can and should be able to fly the flag all they want at home, on their trucks, whatever. It just doesn't belong associated with a governing entity.

Yeah, it's well known that December 20 is celebrated as The Day We Were Freed from Becoming Freemen by black South Carolinians. All over the state African-Americans celebrate the day by dragging around cotton sacks and chanting "please, please don't whup me massa!"

Had they only removed the flag sooner those nine people in that church would not have died.

Well I doubt that their families are opposed to the idea of taking it down.

Yeah man. Making light of 9 people being murdered in a fricking church because of your stance on a flag is awesome.

A lot of people here sure do have a strong opinion of a state that they don't live in.

To be fair, things that have occurred in your state recently have created a trickle down effect (for better or worse) among other states.

I don't get it. Nobody is stopping these people from flying the flags if they want to. Why are people so mad that it got taken down from the building that represents the entire state? Half the people forgot it was there until it became a hot issue again. The other half thought it was still on top of the dome.

All the companies taking the flag off their websites and the General Lee stuff is over the top, but that's their decision. Just as taking down the flag was South Carolina's. It's a flag. Not even tradition. shite gets moved every other decade.

It's done. Move on with your lives.
