GT with two on, 1 out, top of the 9th down 2
Now onto GT/Ole Miss. Close game 9-8 over there
This vandy game is nuts. All wright needs is one more out

Ballgame!
As long as their pitching holds up for 3 more outs they're golden
Ump in this vandy game is squeezing the wright st pitcher pretty bad

He's squeezing both teams equally
Put on the vandy game and forgot about the whistler :casty:. Game is on mute

we're going to continue to fly SW often for the next 1.5 years at least, have companion pass, RR points, and the cards so won't have to pay for a checked bag

And this makes perfect sense if you have the credit card and companion pass as you still get one free bag for everyone on the reservation

quote:

And for better or worse it will solve the pre-boarding mess, but while annoying I never let that bother me

What I'll be curious about is the actual boarding times on southwest planes in a few months. They typically have 40 minute turns on a 738 but with everyone now going to be bringing a carry-on instead of a checked bag, how much slower is boarding going to be? I'm expecting a lot of last minute gate checked bags that will cause some delays in departure times by an extra 10-15 minutes. If this happens early in the day, those delays are just going to cascade throughout the day and the late afternoon/evening flights will suffer the worst

quote:

I will fly SW, but I will also fly whatever gets me there direct and cheaper from MSY. I'm flying to both STL and KC later this year, I'm not passing up a direct fly just because I'm pissed with SW

It'll be interesting if those direct flights they jack the prices up because they realize they are the only ones with a non-stop option. Is flying direct or flying cheaper more important for you?

We haven't even discussed pricing yet... People have been noticing that the Wanna Get Away fares are now the same price as pre 5/28 with no checked bags, no same day standby, 6 month flight credit expiration, etc. They killed WGA and turned it into basic economy that's almost worse than UA, DL, AA, etc

And just saw this article about 'Why I won't buy early bird check-in again'. LINK Apparently early bird check-in doesn't actually check you in. The person ended up as B10 despite paying the $30 for early check in meaning all 60 A group, pre-boarders, and families would board before them. I'm with them, I wouldn't pay for that 'benefit' any longer

it was miserable how tight the seats are as of now

That's exactly my thought on United's standard legroom for us poors

But in any case, Southwest is going to spend a boatload of money to undergo all of these plane modifications to add in these extra legroom seats and remove legroom for standard seats for what? The random business traveler that wouldn't previously book SWA because they couldn't pick a seat? Elliott seems to have a lot of faith in that market and that business travelers will book SWA post-modifications. I don't think SWA is even an option in Concur at my company let alone a 'Preferred Airline' for booking

Well they won’t be able to hoard the first 5-8 rows like they currently do unless they pay for it now. So no reason to fake being unable to walk on with everyone else

If you take away their incentive, I wonder if they'll just try to find another way to game the system? Maybe they need an extra legroom seat near the front for their disability?

Haven’t seen new seat configs, but will have a few “first class” then “plus” then the normal seats

Looks like here is the new seating chart. Standard legroom drops to 31"

It went from 1-2 pre boarders to 10+ on every fligh

Very true, we've all seen it. Do we know if that's been addressed with these changes? I don't think I've seen anything about that actually

The downfall of SW started with Covid and has been a snowball since

It's interesting that the video in the OP suggests it was actually that winter storm and the total meltdown Southwest had that did it. They actually seemed to recover better from COVID with more bookings than the big 3. I remember flying Delta home through Atlanta during that southwest mess and seeing hundreds of people camped out/lined up in ATL terminal C stuck in the middle of the cancellations. That event stuck with me to avoid southwest during holiday travel given their antiquated IT
Morning y'all :gmt:. Some grumbling thunder just woke me up. Tornado warning for the area as well. Happy Sunday...

Between getting more expensive

$175-250 for a one-way is about normal now

less directs from Love Field

I'm not sure if this was a result of COVID, but most nonstops I see now are 7am or 9pm. Take away some flight routes that aren't profitable and give more options in the middle of the day

pre boarding madness

What's the most pre-boarders you've seen on a flight? Good general question for everyone here. I think I'm at 12 including some obese woman

breeze and spirit are much more enjoyable experiences than southwest

Have never flown breeze, but the one flight I took on the big yellow bus last year aka Spirit was good. On time, no issues during flight, got me where I needed to go for cheap. From MSY, breeze and spirit have some decent options nonstop

southwest is the ghetto airline

I experienced this with both passengers and flight attendants on Southwest within the last year

The only advantage that they have left is that they still offer more direct flights than the others

Fair assessment especially for those on here in Louisiana. I have noticed an uptick in the low cost carriers stepping in for those random flights out of MSY and other smaller airports. It's worth a look now if Southwest is going to have sky high fares

Got our November trip booked before the changes took effect this month

Smart . But curious, after your november trip, how often are you going to book with Southwest over AA going forward? Or is it just going to be a 'What is the cheapest flight I can get going from DFW to ___ including bag costs, seat assignments, etc?'

The Downfall of Southwest

Was reading another travel site and saw this video on there about the downfall of southwest. Pretty interesting to read how a lot of the recent events started with their December 2022 Christmas meltdown and how it's turned into Elliott taking over the boardroom and pushing through these changes for investors. Just a warning it's a 25 minute video so be warned

LINK

I don't have any flights booked on southwest for the rest of the year and these recent changes are a good reason for it. Bag fees mean I won't use them for ski trips any longer. I was indifferent to open seating vs assigned seating, but apparently they're reducing the normal seating legroom by 1" to add in the extra legroom seating on their planes. I haven't seen a good fare sale on Southwest for a while either.
I'm here in FL and I've been noticing a lot of price drops on everything listed. Lease is up the end of september so was planning on starting to look for a house in a month or so. Wondering if I should casually look and continue to let prices drop or i bite the bullet rather than dealing with signing another lease and breaking it in a few months if prices drop even further? $4k to break a lease in December seems a lot cheaper than paying an extra $25k for buying a house in august

Mid June is a great time of year in B'lo. The waterfront area is really nice, can rent kayaks or bikes down by the water. Riverworks is a good option for this. Plenty of golf courses in the area. See if the Bisons are in town for a baseball game. Lots of festivals during the summer like Greek fest, Italian fest. Concerts at Darien lake or downtown. Seneca Creek casino

Bar bill for wings
Jim's steak out for a late night stinger
Pearl street is good for beer and food sowntown
Breweries like resurgence, southern tier, Hartman's
