You can buy edibles from a company (I use Enjoy Hemp…website should be easy to find) and ship them to you. I get 12mg gummies (25 to a bottle) for about $40. There’s your concentrated shot. Take as many as you need.

Fun fact. My father in law fought in that war against Franco and was a POW. I didn’t have a lot of interactions with him and don’t know any details. I do know he hated the Catholic Church at least as an institution because of the war. Always got the feeling he was atheist/agnostic.
He died a few months ago at 106 years old. My wife is only 48 as he was pushing 60 when she was born. She and her brothers (twins 10 years older than her) took care of him until the end. They were a big part of his life but it was a more formal type of relationship. Not cold at all, nut not really warm and fuzzy. A decent man, not great and nothing bad. A father, not Ward Cleaver but nothing bad. He did have an interesting life I wish I knew more about.

Oh good I’m not alone.
A few weeks ago I saw the complete series on sale for $35 on Apple. Always wanted to watch it and the only place is through AMC streaming or buying it.
I'm 4 episodes in and don't get the appeal so far. I'm hoping it gets better as you get to know the characters. At this point it seems almost like an SNL skit about how men acted in this time period, but amplified.
I'm not asking if I should keep going...I wouldn't bail on an such an acclaimed show after just a couple of episodes. But I am wondering if it does get better. Advertising might be like medical dramas to me...I just don't care too much about the genre.
re: Mother passed away, access to apple devices questions

My dad passed away and I was going to give his ipad and iphone to my niece. The Apple store wiped everything, but due to Apple ID they are basically worthless.
They told me I could go through Apple using my power of attorney and all of the death documentation to get the phone wiped. At that point it was too much trouble for two used devices and we didn't care what was on them. It was a couple of years ago now and I may have some of the details off a little.

I asked ChatGPT why does Jack Reacher walk funny with short strides? I'm very new to ChatGPT and having fun asking it stupid questions to learn how it works.
It gave 5 possible reasons covering info from books, movies and the show:
-Military training I talked about
-It's due to his size
-Actor decision to make him more imposing and deliberate
-Just to be opposite of Tom Cruise's portrayal which was more fluid
-Psychological aspect: reflects his readiness to stop, turn, or react at any moment.
I'm going with a combo of military training and to make him look bigger, stronger and more ready to go at all times. Even if it looks funny. Some Reddit people think it's because the actor is only 6-2 and is wearing lifts to seem taller and that has an impact :dunno:
Love the books (read them all except maybe the latest one), the first movie (second was okay), and all 3 season so far (Season 2 was good, not great, to me).

What I cannot figure is the odd way that Ritchson has played Reacher's walk.
I read someone talking about this recently. The answer given was there's a specific stride you take when marching in the military regardless of your size. Reacher maintains that stride in his personal life even though it's shorter than his natural stride would be.
I have no idea if this is true but it made sense. Maybe someone with more knowledge can tell if this is true or BS. It could just be that the actor is banged up from the action scenes and added weight. I think he had surgery after or during last season for injuries during filming.
re: Shogun - Official Series Discussion Thread **Spoilers**
Posted by Dave Worth on 2/21/25 at 1:33 pm
I tried watching this a few months ago. I would watch it at night after my wife fell asleep and the edibles had kicked in. That was a bad idea because I would either fall asleep or not really remember what happened. I tried to start up where I left off a couple weeks ago (Episode 4) and had no memory of what happened.
I got a little sick this week so I started Monday night with Episode 1 and finished Episode 10 last night. Fantastic show. I would get confused a lot trying to remember which character did what, and sometimes why, so I would often pause and have to look up stuff. Would have been way easier tracking this thread after each episode! Reading through it today either showed me stuff I missed or reinforced things I thought.
One thing that surprised me about this thread is how little discussion of the prisoner being boiled alive there was. I can watch a lot of sick stuff and not be really bothered. I don't know if it's because I was sick for that episode, but his screams being dragged to the pot haunted me all week. Something about knowing you're about to die in one of the most horrible possible ways resonated with me.
Also saw there's a Season 2. Hoping for the best, expecting the worst. I did watch some of the behind the scenes stuff and saw that the actor playing Toranaga is a main producer and one of the most respected actors from Japan. I think he's also an expert on that era down to clothes, customs and even the way they walked/moved. They showed how he would film his scene, then take off his wig and costume and go straight to advising on another scene. His (and the other experts the show used) continual involvement will be a huge positive. I will start watching Season 2 the day the first episode is released.

re: Anyone having issues right now with some of their streaming apps on their TV?
Posted by Dave Worth on 2/20/25 at 10:02 am
Hulu was down last night for a little while.
I have a crazy problem with MAX. It logs me out every day on my Apple TV. I have to delete the app, sign back in and authenticate it on the ipad MAX app. Whole process takes less than 2 minutes, but it's annoying.
On top of that, I can't get MAX to work on any Roku box in the house (same process still gives me an error) or Smart TV. But it does work on game consoles. I think it has something to do with having the service through YoutubeTV that's triggering the login issues.

Why would Presley be at the president's house? Video games makes sense
I wouldn't be surprised if the President gave the tablet to Presley to give to her dad because Xavier is the only person the President trusted. Seems like he knew that his life was in danger.
If true the circumstances will be interesting as to why she was there (video games make sense) and what the President was going through. It looks like he was wounded and managed to live and crawl around after at least one blow, even marking the cigarette pack, before he died.

Oh yes, of course we would get a climate change narrative
We'll have to see what the messaging is inside the show. Most reasonable people agree that climate change is happening...as it's happened for billions of years. We are currently at the end of an ice age so it should come as no surprise that the earth can warm up. The normal argument is how much is man made or preventable and not a topic I want to go into on the Movie TV board.
I'm no expert by any means and just read a few things about this today. But there appears to be a correlation between melting ice caps and volcanic activity. Whether there's causation or not I don't know, but it would make for an interesting scenario for a doomsday movie/show. How they handle the reason for the climate change could turn either side off. I can probably deal with either scenario as long as it's not an obvious overarching political message.

Read a synopsis on Reddit if you want to know what the tablet said.
Spoilers taken from a Reddit post:
Climate changes thinned out ice sheets. The thin ice sheets can no longer provide enough resistance to hold in magma from volcanoes, which erupt. Super volcanoes in Alaska and potentially Antarctica are specifically mentioned as world ending similar to asteroid impact. Predictions were coasts would be hit with 1500 foot waves and total destruction.
I'm sure there's more to it. Some guesses that nukes were used somehow and that would explain high radiation levels.

So what are we thinking it was that ended the world? I'm assuming an asteroid, since they knew about it for a while.
I'm going to look for a good screen shot of the tablet when the President was reading it, but I did get the gist of it I think.
I paused on that scene and could see some stuff about atmospheric changes and the explosion of either a super volcano or a bunch of super volcanos.
Not sure if there was more to it than that. Looking forward to reading the reddit pages on this when I have some time. I love this show so far. Great mix of flashbacks to keep our favorite dead characters still involved. Love the mystery and I'm a sucker for end of days type scenarios. I just hope they don't move too fast to get out of the bunker. I enjoy seeing what "normal" life is for the survivors.
I did pick up on Sinatra saying if others found out where they were they would be in danger. That seems to set up some kind of conflict with outsiders for maybe future seasons if not the end of this season. I also think Xavier's wife will be alive out in the destroyed earth at some point.
re: Gaming headset recs

This is probably not a good option for most but wanted to put this out there for anyone that it would work for.
I love video games but never play online. I've been having issues with my sound being too loud for the house at night if I want to watch an action movie or a loud game. I was looking for a good headset that would allow me to switch between my PS5, XBOX and Apple TV box. Having a mic to be able to talk during online games is of no value to me but is probably important to most. I also wanted very good sound quality with good spatial audio.
I have a Sonos system that everything runs through and I recently bought the Sonos Ace headset. With the click of a button on the headset I can change the audio from going through my speakers to coming through my headphones. And the noise cancelling is very good.
This has been a game changer for me. It's not cheap for a pair and you need to already be in the Sonos system for these to be the best option. But it's easy and quick to switch to and the battery life is very good. Sound quality is very good and maybe a small step below the Air Pods Max. I do not play any online games so I don't know if you can use these to talk to other players during a game.

re: Thoughts on Bad Monkey staring Vince Vaughn. Apple.
Posted by Dave Worth on 1/28/25 at 10:22 am
I really liked it. I generally like Vince Vaughn but sometimes he's a bit much. For whatever reason I liked him in this. Highly recommended.
Some Apple shows that have been mentioned but not talked about a lot:
Black Bird. Great mini series based on a true story about a felon trying to get his sentence commuted by getting the goods on a fellow inmate suspected of being a serial killer.
Slow Horses. We're at 4 seasons now and the first 3 were truly great. I just started season 4 so I don't have an opinion. I believe each season is 6 episodes so it goes quick. Gary Oldman is by far the best part of the show.
Shrinking. This is talked about more than others but not as much as it should. If you like Scrubs, Lasso, Bad Monkey or even Cougar Town then this is a show for you. It's the same creator and does a great job of balancing genuinely funny moments and deeply serious subjects. You can easily go from belly laughs to tears in minutes.
Acapulco is another good one but I'm not very far in. It's a half hour comedy about a rich man reminiscing on his experiences working at a resort. So far it's decently funny and has a good heart. I think there's 3 seasons out with a 4th confirmed.
Mythic Quest comes back this week, maybe even tonight? Half hour comedy about a video game company starring Rob McElhenny from Sunny in Philly. I personally love this one and am excited it's back. Rarely ever talked about and I love it.
I liked Presumed Innocent with Gyllenhaal. Good, not great mini series that got picked up for another season but will go with new people/case. Worth the watch even if you saw the Harrison Ford movie.
Dark Matter is on my list but wife isn't interested and I haven't gotten to it yet. But it has great reviews and I'll get to it soon.
Morning Show was really good for 1 season, okay for 1 season and almost unwatchable last season. I'm hoping they get back on track but I'm not hopeful. I'll probably still watch another season because there have been some very good pieces.
If you liked Band of Brothers and The Pacific then you should give Masters of the Air a shot. It's the third best of the 3 Hanks/Spielberg series but I still liked it a lot. I think they do a good job of showing the hell our bombers went through. It has it's detractors but I appreciated it.

Evil is a good show. Started on CBS before moving to streaming only. Seal Team is also pretty good. Both are finished so you can binge the whole series.

I've read all of the books and would say Titus plays the character pretty close to the books.
The Tunnel rat background was cool, but to apply it here Bosch would have to be in his late 60s or 70s at the start of the show. That's a bit old to still be an active detective.
The Special Forces background doesn't get a lot of detail if I remember. As in, they don't make him out to be Rambo or some superhero. Just a guy who was a good soldier and is now a cop with a military background like so many others. The Special Forces just identifies him as one of the better soldiers.

I want to say 2 Easy Co soldiers said they went to his funeral. Maybe Babe and someone else? Another reason why eye witness testimony is unreliable. Blythe went on to fight in Korea where he died from a perforated ulcer. He was also awared Bronze and Silver Stars in Korea for his service.
Ambrose has quite the reputation for being a lazy researcher. Dike is the one that pisses me off. Today is the first time I heard the theory about PTSD and that could be true. What I do know is that he wasn't a coward and was seriously injured. He was a decorated officer who went on to serve in Korea.
re: People who are affected by natural or manmade disasters should get $0 from the government
Posted by Dave Worth on 1/14/25 at 10:15 am
Hard disagree. I want to see the opposite where one of the primary functions of the government is to help these kinds of people. I'm sure I'll hear about 100 different reasons why people would hate this and I'll listen.
Best example is from Hawaii's fires. And please tell me if this was another story on the internet that proved to be false later. The way I heard it was it would take $5B to rebuild the homes lost in the Hawaii fires. At the same time, there was an accounting error that sent an additional $6B to the Ukraine. Not $6B total...but an extra $6B on top of everything. If true then that's criminal to me.
Like I said, I don't know the hurdles and roadblocks to it. But I'd much rather see the Government putting money to rebuild our own communities before another country's. And while I don't doubt their ability to frick things up, I don't trust the insurance companies either.
And this is not to excuse a state like CA not doing the right things (forest cleanup, water retention). But half, give or take, of any population usually didn't vote for the side implementing government policies. And "they should just move" is one of the most ignorant responses I've come across. That's great when you can afford it and have other options. It's not easy for most to leave family, friends and work.
Like most issues in this country/world, it's not an overnight fix that one vote can handle.

I remember watching a lot of clips where Bush was used as a decoy. For example, they would fake a pitch left to Bush and a bunch of defense players went for it leaving something else wide open for Brees. The defense followed him because if he got a step on them then they were in trouble.
Bush wasn't a bust and he wasn't a great player. But I do think he was an extremely valuable role player that went at least a little beyond just his stats.
