Too bad universities don't exist to provide business opportunities. Sorry, breh.
nvm

Wait, we're a business now?
Maybe not technically, but colleges have all the same basic criteria. I absolutely believe branding and marketing issues need to be viewed from a business perspective.

we can stop giving a flying frick what outsiders think
Because, like any business, Ole Miss needs outsiders to grow.

I am going to say I do not care!! If a kid has a better batting average than his competition he should play..lucky unlucky whatever
That logic is a little flawed. Batting average is a shallow stat. It tells you how well someone has done, but it doesn't work as a projection stat by itself. Anderson wouldn't be playing this year if batting average determined everything. You have to weigh it against things like BAbip and Con% in order to get project a player accurately. Luck is a huge variable in baseball when trying to predict trends.

People talk about getting the two out timely hits and we can't get em
Ole Miss is performing above theoretical production: 85 runs vs. 78.46 expected. That shows they are getting more timely hits than expected.

I could be mistaken but I believe we have seen average pitching at best.
I think we have seen better pitching than most of the West. Finnegan and Morrison are still two of the top college arms out there. It's TCU's offense that has been horrid.

I also believe that guys like Mathis and Mistone averages will start rising,
You're absolutely right on Mathis. He has the contact numbers of an elite hitter so far this season. His hits just aren't falling. It's very similar to Austin Anderson last year. Mistone doesn't project to rise a lot in batting average, but he has done a really good job getting on base.

I agree with you on Orvis. His swing makes me cringe.

Allen will come up. I think he is just slumping right now. I believe Jamison is in the same situation, but he is closer to coming out.

All the OM fans not saying 10 are living in a land of delusion.
As awesome as our class was for us it wasn't perfect when you just look at needs. We wanted to sign at least 1 more defensive lineman. We had 4 of them flip (Reed, Daniel, Cummings, Middleton).

The baseball series is going to be a huge weekend. Both teams are going to be very good.

Some things just don't show up in the stat book.
I completely agree. I'm a metric guy though. I believe in luck more than I should and clutch less than I should. It just comes with the territory.

No, I'm not downplaying that at all. But thats the thing...I seriously doubt Anderson's OBP is higher than Newalu.
Actually if you eliminate pitching error and take away both player's HBP Anderson's OB% is 10 points higher than Newalu's.

The only way Overbey starts over Anderson is if Anderson isn't 100% in two weeks.

Anderson is a much more complete player than Jake. He's error prone, but he has better range than any other infielder on the team. He's also very underrated offensively. He was in the top 3 in the league in BB/SO ratio last season, but probably had the lowest BABIP (batting avg on balls in play) in the SEC. BABIP measures luck. Anyone who picks up a bat is expected to have a .300 BABIP. Anderson finished at .180 on the season. That's a strong indicator that his batting average was very deflated. I expect him to hit .300 this year if not better. He'll also have a high OB%. The only person better than him at not striking out is Tanner Mathis.

Thanks for the help so far. Bumping for a few more responses.

Question about SEC ballparks

Posted by BarstoolRodeo on 1/30/13 at 2:11 am
I'm currently working on calculating park factors for SEC ballparks, but I need some help with information.

-Has your home field seen any modifications to the playing dimensions over the last 5 years?
-What were the modifications? (OF wall height/distance, foul territory change, new stadium, etc)
-When did it change?

Any information helps. The math is going to be a pain the arse. I'm just trying to avoid some extra research. Thanks in advance.

A friend of mine coached Nynan for a summer league team and told me he left OM because Bianco lied to him about the amount of scholarship he was getting. He got on campus and found out he virtually had to pay his own way. He's at a JUCO now on a full ride and will likely be drafted in 2013
I've heard that, but it doesn't add up at all. All the terms of a player's scholarship are written out in the documentation when they sign to play with a school. There's no way a team can just lie to someone about a scholarship unless they fail to read the contract. The misunderstanding would have to be on Nyman's end. I imagine Nyman could have taken legal action if the problem was in the documentation.

Ole Miss also lost Nyman at the beginning of the semester due to a "misunderstanding". He was the top prospect after the three first rounders.
