Based off the radar I see Mobile is getting hammered.
Mobile isn't even getting rain right now. The wind is minimal as well.

What about the french quarter
A number of them are open in the FQ. Molly's on Decatur for sure.

Biloxi looks like it is bent over and taking it right now from the radar.

She probably did you a favor if there is no power.
True, I just think it's funny she included that in her text message. Hopefully she got rid of the other perishables, too. This is her first hurricane.

Pretty much at Ursulines and N Rampart. Roommate just texted back, no power and she is wasted at Molly's on Decatur. She also ate all my ravioli.

I live a block from the Quarter...can't get in touch with roommates. Power report for the area? I'm assuming if bars are open then I probably have power, but I don't want to drive back tomorrow if I don't.

Water rising on the rivers off Mobile Bay. Rain has slowed to a drizzle here for the time being. Lots of branches down, still have power.

Do cell phones go out if there is a wide power outage?
I'd like to know this as well

I'm evacuating in Fairhope right now!
In other slightly unrelated news...here is a picture of a boat fire in St. Bernard Parish sent to me by a firefighter friend.

Just talked to a firefighter friend on duty in the St. Bernard Parish area.
They've had a boat fire, house fire, code that didn't make it, a few med calls, trees down and a lot of alarms going off.
They said it's mostly just wind damage out there right now.

My cat got out, when I went outside to turn the breaker off and start the generator. I was surprised he ran out in the rain. I can't find him now, it sucks for a pet to get out in this.
:wah: I hope your cat is okay! Do they have a collar? I'm sorry that happened
Signed,
a crazy cat lady

Also--anyone have any information on Slidell out by the wal-mart/mall/private airport? If anyone has specific info on the BelAir neighborhood, that would be awesome. Didn't see a thread for the area.

Saw that on the O-T board, but so far that is all I've been able to find. Didn't know if anyone had talked to someone they personally knew--although I don't even know how that would work in these circumstances. Do cell phones still work? Or is it just radio communication?

Anyone spoken to anyone on Grand Isle recently?

I've only been to the one in Austin. It was pretty nice but there was almost *too* much selection. It made my head spin.
I tried a few crazy beers and then ended up drinking Rogue Dead Guy the rest of the night..which is kind of lame since you can get that in NOLA.
If they put one in NOLA I think they should definitely do it in the Quarter--maybe where one of the shops next to JAX is, right by Jackson Square on the river side or a little further down closer to Canal Place/Felipes. I think it's too big for Bourbon St. A big HELL NO to it going out in Metairie. Who wants to drive drunk back to the city after drinking there?
I think it would do well here.
ALSO--LA's liquor/beer laws are MUCH better than Alabama's IIRC.

re: Why is UT Bama's Biggest Rival?
Posted by leightide on 6/1/12 at 8:55 pm
I was a student at Alabama a few years ago.
The game we (me and most of my friends) looked forward to the most was LSU.
Of course if you ask a handful of people walking through the quad who our biggest rival was, 8 out of 10 would probably say Auburn.
