re: Bruce Pearl closes his press conference
Posted by Opti on 3/18/14 at 8:07 pm
I'm glad that Pearl is back in the SEC.
He will be fun to follow and his Auburn teams will be very competitive in the SEC.
Like Ray Mears and Dale Brown before him, colorful, competent coaches are good for the SEC.
Welcome Back, Coach

UK
Any coach who wins an SEC football championship at Kentucky will be declared a saint, have statues erected in his honor, have the stadium named in their honor and will be elected Governor of the Commonwealth.

Missouri is a lot more experienced so I can see why they might be the pick. Given UK's youth, I'm not sure I would even rank them 2.
The best part though...is that it doesn't really matter what preseason polls 4 months before the season say.
If Missouri is the best team they will need to Show It on the court.
We can evaluate this projection a little better in 6-8 months.

On June 1st the SECAC relocated to Birmingham.

The SEC works together academically through the SECAC (SEC Academic Consortium). The Universities cooperate on grants, promote cooperation between Universities, cooperate in study abroad and can even borrow each others lab space when necessary to enable the capacity to compete for some grants. Their materials say they are entering phase II which presumably will ramp up the effort to attract more research dollars.
Presumably having more AAU members will enhance the SECAC and help generate more research dollars.
It was modeled after the Big Ten's Committee on Institutional Cooperation (CIC).
This is mostly about athletics but then again it is also about academics.

re: Is A&M the only SEC school whose in state, non-SEC rival refuses to play them?
Posted by Opti on 10/15/11 at 12:29 pm
I don't think it will be 2018 before the schools play again.
It may take a year or two but eventually the legislature will start asking questions and tu will be encouraged to schedule aTm.
Some of the other states required at least the threat of legislative action before agreeing to play on a regular basis.

If Mizzou comes into the SEC, they go to the East until and if any additional teams are added in the future.
If WVU joins the issue takes care of itself.

UK Fans want the head coach and AD gone because of what they see as an uncompetitive football program. Yes, although the record doesn't match, Kentucky fans are very passionate about their football.

For Mizzou to have any hope they need to pull a Marshall out of their back pockets...10000 fans to the administration building by 11:00 am
Brace For Disappointment
Perhaps it is just a coincidence, but Tuesday, October 4th is the seventh anniversary of Brady Deaton’s debut as Chancellor of the University of Missouri. It is also the date on which Deaton must make the most important decision of his seven years as Chancellor. Tomorrow Deaton will tell the Missouri Board of Curators whether the Tigers should remain proud members of the Big 12, or become the newest member of the Southeastern Conference.
Brace for Disappointment
Missouri will stay in the Big 12 Conference because staying in the Big 12 Conference is the easy thing to do. Staying in the Big 12 Conference is the comfortable thing to do. Staying in the Big 12 Conference allows Chancellor Deaton to avoid looking like the bad guy who kicked an already down Big 12. Staying in the Big 12 Conference allows Chancellor Deaton to bask in the warm glow of being the man who gave stability to a fracturing Big 12 Conference.

re: Slive, SEC hold the strings while puppets dance

The best part is that after all the hysteria of the last four weeks...everyone will be relieved when aTm officially gets their keys to the SEC club. Even those that opposed the move will applaud it as the last piece to restore sanity.
Pretty cool if you think about it.
Tip of the hat to Slive and Loftin.
