re: GQ Article - Is Zone 2 Cardio really better for you?

Problem is wrist based heart monitors are not reliable. I just run at a comfortable pace for easy runs, have never looked at heart rate.
Also in my experience: "zone 2 cardio" especially as it relates to running is waaaaaay too over prescribed to newer runners. When someone is first starting out they are not going to be able to truly do "zone 2" training... It takes time and experience to learn what "zone 2" means for yourself, lots and lots of experience.
I always just tell people to run when they can and try to enjoy it, because once you stop enjoying it you've probably pushed yourself into "gonna get injured" zone

Y'all make me sick with these ultras. A 14 mile long run when I was prepping for a half made me question why anyone would do even a marathon
If it makes you feel any better - after running a 100 miler I also don't get why people race a Marathon, it's a terrible distance

Played around with ladiga. Would be the fastest 100 I ever ran lol
I want to run Ladiga, but I have 4 friends running Blue Heron... hard to pass up running a race you know you have built in support vs. one you do not.
Also Blue Heron has a better buckle

4 Hours today... so glad this "block" is over.
First week - 51 Miles, 23 mile long run
Second Week - 48 miles, Marathon Long run - 4 minute PR  :wtf:
Third Week - 42 Miles, 30 on Trails, 18 Mile long run with 2,100ft of Elevation today...
I'm ready for some recovery, my body doesn't quite like the abuse I'm putting it through

looks like a fast course. i still miss mercedes is gone this time of year.
Great course, 5 miles from my house as well. The trail is a bit longer than 8 miles one way as well, so if you do 1 out and back it's 16 miles. They are working to extend it on both sides as well.
Needless to say I'm happy that such a place exist so close to my house, and I've started using it a lot recently, basically for 30 to 40 percent of my runs.

Railway? I’m running the half. Doing the same thing. No plan, just showing up.
If you want to try to keep up with me you are more than welcome to... my current strategy is going to be to keep it between 8:00 and 8:30 with a 6/1 run/walk method for at least 14 miles. After that depending on how I'm feeling I'll keep it 6/1 or drop it down to 6/:30 or just all run and finish strong.

I'm RIIIIIGHT on the cusp of it, joined in 2011, I think most of da clan stuff was still going on. I joined right in time for the era of Finch, Sic, and Devious to kick off.
I wouldn't say I'm still around either, I post like once a month these days, and mostly about running (as I run 100 milers these days... not a whole lot of time for gaming when running that much)
ETA: I do own an Odin 2 Portal that I play retro games on, and also play bigger games such as Expedition 33 last year, just don't have even close to as much time to game these days (my 7 year old games way more than I do)

I'm currently reading through Abaddon's Gate (the 3rd book that the 3rd season follows)!! I watched the show and went back to the beginning with the books. Absolutely incredible series!
The really funny thing to me is that after watching the show you naturally make the characters looks like the show counterparts... But Gunny, yeah, poor Gunny in the books is built like the Rock, so she has the actresses face but the Body of Dwayne Johnson while reading the books

I started as a heel striker. I’m now a forefoot striker as nature intended. Contrary to what others have said, I didn’t find the transition too bad. It did take time. Heel striking is a product of modern footwear. You can’t heel strike running barefoot. Can’t do it. And yes, this opinion is unpopular and in the minority.
My friend that just ran a 2:45 marathon in NYC is a heel striker. "Born to Run" is a great book, but it's not the end all be all, yes modern shoes have made us more of heel strikers, but modern shoes are also the reason we will one day break the 2 hour marathon...

5 at pace miles (for the Marathon) yesterday afternoon
400m intervals this morning, 8 @ 5:45 pace
Today was the first attempted at running in the morning before work - been slowly bringing my wake-up time back in the morning, today was the first time I woke up early enough to get the run in :nana:
Tomorrow will do another 5 miles at pace. I love Marathon Pacing weeks, they are some of my favorites!

I haven't run since my Friday long run last week, I guess I'll go out and do some easy miles this afternoon but I'm pacing a Marathon on Sunday and the weather outlook is rain the ENTIRE TIME. I want to enjoy it Sunday, but I'm not gonna hold my breath. The schafing is gonna be BRUTAL on Monday :banghead:

One thing I didn't mention - the Evo is not the most stable shoe, if it was a human it would definitely need therapy.
Like I said it's a great shoe, and kinda an all around shoe while also being the best at a lot of things. I prefer the Superblast on longer runs though because they have the pop of the Evo with extreme stability
