That’s why you play Milazzo behind the plate

His leadership and consistency as a defensive catcher is irreplaceable. You can tell Herring feels very confident throwing his breaking balls because he knows Milazzo will block every single one of them and throw the runners out on 1st.
Oh plus, he got on base when needed. What else can you ask ...
I’ll have a big problem with Jay

if Braswel continues to start at SS this weekend....

It’s more about timely hitting than the number of hits. Tenn had 2 homers among those hits and we had none....

Name a better option at those positions who CAN hit....

Sure, look at the mighty production from the rest of the team, and putting in an elite defender would only do our great hitters injustice… oh wait....

White and Jones have stepped up. But just the two of them ain’t enough to win in the SEC.
Milazzo hasn’t been given lots of chance to play, so how could he step up?...

Playing Pearson left and right and out of his position is Jay’s fault, which further proves my point that Jay’s decision making has been questionable.
And yes, not hitting jack-sh*t is Pearson’s fault. We all thought he’s gonna be the next core guy stepping up on offense but he didn’t....

I actually like the idea of Braswel DH if we’d like to keep his bat without overwhelming him on D. ...

Milam has shown lots of potential at offense/defense and he’s also a true freshman. This is Neal’s second year and he has yet to figure out either defense or offense....

You are missing the point. Playing your best veteran guy at key positions and gives your more promising young players playing time. I’m not sure who’s that “next year player” at 2B and Catcher yet, that’s why we need to ride the veteran guys there....

Neal isn’t your guy at catcher next year either. Jay needs to hit transfer portal to get his catcher next year, but if he doesn’t want to throw this season completely away, he needs to start Milazzo....
I don’t understand Jay’s decision-making
Posted by VesperiaLSU on 4/12/24 at 10:23 pm
You have a much better defensive catcher in Milazzo and Jay just doesn’t use him. If Neal gives you so much offensive firepower, sure, I can roll with it, but that’s just not the case. Seeing Neal let a simple breaking pitch get past him and then gave a wild throw to 3B to give UT a free run, and th...
How about Milam SS Braswell 2nd base?
Honestly, I think that's probably the best option we have in the short term until we can get another reliable option at SS. We'd like to keep Braswell's bat in the lineup so we will have to hide him somewhere on the infield....

Listening to CJJ's postgame comments, we can pick up two messages:
1. He's officially evaluating alternative options at SS outside of Braswell, so I'd be very surprised if Braswell starts at SS the next game.
2. We have very few options and close to non experience at SS outside of Braswell, and he...
Braswell as SS

This [link=(https://youtu.be/BeicYTT7QYo?si=cB2QeiGEBMv6vBeq&t=601)]play[/link] right here is something that makes me miss JT. JT may make random mistakes at times but he's sure got a cannon arm and would have been able to gun this runner down. In Braswell's case, I'm not sure if it was due to his l...
re: Why not walk Pinckney with 1B open and 2 outs??

I think at that moment it's about picking your fight. You will need to get 1 out regardless, it just doesn't make sense to pick the fight with the hottest batter....
Because even with a HR they were still losing.
Well that decision definitely made the game much much closer than it needed to be, and we've seen so many last-inning crazy rallies over the years. As the HC you want to make decisions that maximize your team's chance to win and challe...
Why not walk Pinckney with 1B open and 2 outs??
Posted by VesperiaLSU on 4/28/23 at 10:16 pm
Pinckney was hot as hell and 4-4 going into the final AB. With 2 outs and 1B open, you would think CJJ probably wants to walk him instead of giving him an opportunity to get a 3 run HR. Instead we challenged him with a fastball and let him score 2 runs. It just felt like a really hardheaded decision...
