I suspect you will start seeing programs contract directly with the athletes. Trying to lock them down for 3 years or shorter terms with prohibitive buyouts for transfers. It wont shut the portal down but it will diminish it significantly.

Because the ncaa concluded yesterday that a rules violation did in fact occur. Therefore Auburn HAD to declare him ineligible and ask for immediate re-instatement. What this means is that something improper did in fact occur. What is doesn't say is that the matter is closed. It isn't! However, it is unlikely that the NCAA will reach a final conclusion until well after the season is over. Cam IS eligible to play now but it doesn't mean he is all clear. It means that the NCAA hasn't reached a conclusion on the case but in the meantime Cam can play. It is possible that the NCAA could rule later that he was ineligible.
