Dude - a "zone read" has nothing to do, whatsoever, with a "read option".
To suggest these concepts are similar is also insanity. wow

SlowFlow LSU is definitely running RPOs, and inside / outside zones.
RPO Example 1: A&M Game - 8:05 3rd Quarter 2nd and 10. This is the play we must never run again while Nuss is QB.
The reasons this play is an "RPO"; Campbell pulls, lineman pass block. Receivers, assuming the presnap call is run, run block. This play is only for dual threat QB's with decision making duties. At present Nuss is neither.

RPO v "read option"

Help!! Read Option v Run Pass Option (RPO).
Apparently some dudes on Tiger Droppings think LSU is running a "read option" offense?
For those that need help, for "read option" or "triple option", please think West Monroe 1997 w/ Tommy Banks. QB reads the defensive end and (1) hands off to Tommy, (2) pulls and runs, or (3) pulls and pitches. IMPORTANTLY no pass option and lineman DOWNFIELD, full run block.
RPO = QB reads defense (incl. linebacker / defensive end or generally) and (1) hands off, (2) pulls and runs, or (3) pulls and throws. Importantly, lineman NOT DOWNFIELD!!!
Suggesting LSU's offense is a "read option" is fuc*%ng insane. Wow.

Tips for Coaching Staff
Posted by Bruce Lee on 10/28/24 at 10:19 am
Tips:
1. Abandon the RPO so long as Nuss is QB.
2. Do not assume one opponent is similar to another simply because they played a close game, on a neutral field, 4-weeks ago.
Observations:
BK is 100% responsible for the A&M meltdown. Lack of preparation for backup running QB, and false start penalties + special teams issues at this point in the season, lay squarely at the feet of the coaching staff.
BK referenced the Arkansas game at least twice during the postgame press conference. This reeks of complacency, assuming a similar outcome between two different opponents because they played a close game 4-weeks ago.
Still time to get if fixed. I remain confident BK can right the ship.

Try to stay posi on BK.
LRiley has nearly identical results v BK first two years.
Napier is a total disaster, not comparable to BK. Who else did the bots want? Mel Tucker? Lane perhaps.
But always eager to hear arguments of an alternative (available) HC scenario.

At least we didn't hire Napier. What a shite show UF is.
Losing to quality opponent 1st game is not end of the world scenario. TWELVE TEAM PLAYOFF..
QB play must improve in the red zone / pressure situations. Otherwise promising "1st" start. Hilton back will be huge, negating double / triple coverage on Lacey.
D appears vastly improved, holding Riley / USC to 27 points.
Shout out to CarterthePower, excellent, watchable film study for those truly interested.

Initial Reaction - Bama Re-watch
Posted by Bruce Lee on 11/8/22 at 3:52 pm
Perkins going out mid 3Q, returning 4Q disrupted continuity of the defense. It took a few plays to adjust initially, but did not hurt us. On the B.Y. scramble TD drive, Perkins returned mid-way and may have missed a few assignments. Otherwise great game from the true freshman, he will learn a lot from film this week.
Generally LSU made it's fair share of mistakes; missed tackles by LB's, secondary breakdowns and pass blocking deficiencies are all evident upon re-watch.
LSU's offense is not predicated on "hope" anymore, hoping our OL, RB's, TE's and WR's are bigger, stronger and faster than opponents for 4Q's. LSU's offense gained a sense of certainty vs Bama. See JD5's postgame interview, he knew he was going to score the TD, and the 2pt conversion in OT. Offense is recognizing and executing the correct play based on what the opponent is giving them. This is achieved by scheme, and by holding excellent practices among others. Kudos to BK and staff.
Overriding theme is that LSU won the game without playing it's best football. BK and staff will have lots of teaching opportunities this week, and LSU should be eager to hit the field vs Arky. Football is a fun game to play when you're on a well-balanced team with great players and competent coaches.
Thanks again and enjoy the progression.

Early BK vs 2005-2021 (excl 2007 + 2019)

1. Oline play vastly improved. Winning 1st "legitimate" SEC game of the season with 2 freshman starting tackles is remarkable.
2. 2-minute offense / clock management vastly improved. Can't recall last time LSU ended 1H with scores vs legit P5 opponents (FSU + MSU) + 99 yard 2-minute 4Q drive that should have sent game to OT.
3. HC relationship with QB vastly improved. BK noticing and correcting JD's mechanics in real time cannot be overstated. Result, huge 4th down conversion catch and eventual W vs MSU. This actually never happened from 2005-2021.
4. Closing out games + 4th quarter mentality vastly improved. 1st few plays of last scoring drive vs MSU were passes. No hesitation, obvious goal was to score. This may eventually cure PTSD from previous regimes sitting on leads and running off clock only to get beat (see 2010s Alabama games) in last 2-minutes.
Enjoy the progression, we finally have a real football coach here at LSU.
