re: Anyone been to London recently?

Some of these have already been said, but my picks:
Parliament Tour - very cool, if you're into that kind of thing. You'll go on the floor of Commons and Lords if not in session. I stood right at the Dispatch Box.
Westminster Abbey
Cabinet (Churchill) War Rooms
Tower of London, but just go look at the jewels and leave. The rest is pretty meh.
British Museum - Rosetta Stone is here.
V&A Museum
Go to the Churchill Arms in South Ken for a pint, but also eat Thai Food in the restaurant in the back. Walk past the bar and go straight back to a small host stand to get your name on the list.
Shop at Harrod's and Liberty. Harrod's has a food hall which is a good place to visit. Also, shop at Fortnum & Masons, but high tea in the is great.
Eat at (any location) for fantastic Indian/Iranian fusion.
Borough Market is also a fun place to get street food for lunch. There is going to be a Thai Food stand there with a line. They are making tiny coconut pancakes. They are the best £5 you will spend.
Drink as much Extra Cold Guinness as humanly possible, since we can't get it over here.
Day trip to Windsor is easy by train. If you can be there in the evening, you can catch Evensong at St. George's which is pretty special.

Just went last month. Lots of good recs in this thread already. Definitely don’t miss Sagrada Familia. Casa Batllo is another cool Gaudi spot, as is Park Guell.
Make a reservation at Martinez. Ask for the seats that face the water. Wander around La Boqueria market for lunch and just eat copious amounts of cheese and jamon.
OSS Kaffe for great coffee. Drink tons of Estrella. Go to La Barceloneta (beach) and drink some by the water. Tons of little bar/restaurants right on the water.

Food: Churchill Arms (pub, but great Thai in back); Dishoom; I always like grabbing lunch at Borough Market. I really liked tea at Fortnum’s. Not too pretentious but still nice.
Activities: Recently did a Westminster tour. You actually get to walk in the Lords and Commons chambers/lobbies. Really cool. Churchill War Rooms. See a show in the West End if that’s your thing.
You don’t have to Oyster any more. Just use Apple Pay or tap to pay credit card.

Dinner: Little Fox in Fox Park. It made the NYT 2021 Restaurant List
Also, the rec for Cunetto is a good one.
Lunch: Salt & Smoke; Gioia’s Deli (Hot Salami).
If you like great coffee: Blueprint Coffee

Absolutely Heathrow Express from Paddington. LINK
If you book early you can get a discount. Just pay attention to strikes and make sure they aren’t on your travel day. They seem to give lots of warning before a strike or “industrial action.”

Any word who the 3 new COVID positives are? Just seeing 3 are out vs. the Toffees.

The debris ball on that one just keeps growing. Bad situation. NWS just issued a warning for Mayfield with a "catastrophic damage" warning. Prayers for those in the path.

I read Patrick Radden Keefe’s “Say Nothing” and am interested in more books covering the time period from the 1916 rebellion through the Troubles. Any recs?

Not what you’re looking for, but I really enjoyed Hero of the Empire by Candice Millard. This book covers Churchill during the Boer War.

The Essential on Morris Ave. in downtown BHM. Well worth the short drive for dinner or brunch.

rt3, as always I love your game previews. Keep up the good work. The Saints Radio Network has a new affiliate in West Alabama, WTXT 98.1, which will get you from about Meridian to Birmingham, but the station gets weak as you are leaving B'ham.
Love the preview. Glad to know we will be getting the radio broadcast in Tuscaloosa. :whodat:

I’ve searched, so apologies if this has been addressed elsewhere. Other than the games that are on ESPN+, is there a way to stream Wycombe FC matches?
re: Highlands in BHam. Who has played it?
Posted by WhoDatBammer on 6/28/20 at 2:59 pm
I played there yesterday for the first time in a long while. Great (short) golf course. One of the Par 3s is so short I took a 56 degree off the tee. It’s in great shape, but it was horrifically slow (as mentioned above). Worth a trip out, though.

Not a bad thing. The Tide doesn't have a stellar record in that game.

AT&T international day pass is well worth it.
re: Worst flight experience for you
Posted by WhoDatBammer on 1/20/20 at 2:35 pm
Back in November, I was in a wreck in a taxi en route to DCA. Had to switch cabs in the middle of the highway. I get there in time for my DCA - BHM direct on BHM. We board the bus, get to the plane and are told there is a maintenance issue. We proceed to have flight time pushed back in 30 minute increments. We actually switched flights and left 7.5hrs late. Our original flight ultimately boarded, but the crew timed out before takeoff.
Not a good day.
