Who is pretty great.
And they may still spend a ton of money on Hosmer which makes no sense. But they won a World Series (almost two) so I could live off that for a long time as a fan.
Braun is owed $56 million. Price is still owed $157 million. Red Sox would have to throw in a ton of cash.

I wish the Reds front office would be active AF like Milwaukee's

Did you not see they signed Vance Worley? I think you can feel safe getting the 2018 World Series Champs tattoo now.
Wow, had 19 in the 4th and 17 straight Kings points.

I always thought he'd be a potential LSU coach down the line. He seems really well-liked by his teammates everywhere and GMs though; would not be surprised if he stuck around in the NBA when his playing career is over.

I'm a Republican and conservative, all my life. But I am certainly concerned by the moral cowardice being displayed by Republicans in Alabama especially by evangelicals

Yeah, anyone in Alabama who is voting for this guy can get off their moral high horse. The Sandusky stuff is way worse but if you are going be up in arms about a second-hand media report that Schiano witnessed an instance of child molestation and only discussed it with people within the program, you should probably be consistent when there are several first-, second-, and third-hand sources in media reports discussing Roy Moore trying to do the same thing to several people.

You are basically Joe Paterno in this situation. He had credible reports from multiple people but never saw anything and, by all accounts, didn't want the information. Who knows, maybe he is even like a lot of posters here in saying there is no way to know what really happened or someone else will remove him from his position if there is credible evidence found.

Stanton edges Votto by two points. Wow.

I thought Stanton would win going away but, as a Votto fan, it frustrates me he was that close to his 2nd mvp. Great to see the voters acknowledging the advanced numbers for him though. And outside of wanting Votto to win, ood to see Stanton get an MVP. Same for Altuve.

Is this the thread where we all band together to get Joe Paterno's statue put back up?
People find Votto unlikable? He isn't outgoing but is incredibly bright. I love hearing him talk about his approach. Anyway, I would say that he has a slightly above average chance at the HOF at this stage and that he has a great chance of aging well--but must avoid injuries that have really hurt his chances so far.

I like reading your posts; this is one of the times I disagree with much of what you wrote.

quote:

But yeah, he needs to raise his profile and he's 33. How many more years do you think he has left? If he's like this for another few years, then yeah. Much better chance. But that would be a highly unusual aging pattern. Players with Votto's skill set (the old man skills of power and patience) tend to age terribly.

Votto has a game that ages well as others have said. His power will decline but his hitting skills are elite. Usually bat speed drops and K's rise at his age; Votto's strikeouts have dropped a lot in the past year particularly this season.

What doesn't get brought up enough RE: Votto: Although he is 33 (past prime seasons) with counting stats that are borderline or worse for HOF, the counting stats he has put up are really hurt by him being injured/recovering from injury in his age 28-30 seasons. He was having an all time season in 2012 until he got hurt (his OPS+ is incredible and masks that he was nowhere near the same player when he returned from injury at the end of the year). He was good in 2011 but his injury sapped his power, then he lost almost all of 2014.

He won't keep up what he has done the past 3 years but he will likely make up some of those numbers if he avoids serious injury (easier said than done).

Also, even though he needs to improve his counting stats, that will never be the Votto argument. He is well aware of advanced stats and has modeled his game on them. Those numbers will be his key argument. And while voters haven't changed that much, they have changed and you have expect that they will only change further toward advanced stats in the next 10-15 years when he is on the ballot. His case will be extremely strong here.

He reminds me a lot of Larry Walker with better on base skills and without the Coors Field advantage. Walker's counting numbers are better because of the era and Coors but Votto's advanced stats are better. And Walker's main problem was injuries. If Votto avoids those, I think he will make it in. But no slam dunk at this point.

I'm not sure why people keep saying this: Louisville just got hammered. They lost their 2013 title, 2012 final four, and 108 wins from 2010 to 2014. I'd rather have multiple postseason bans than have those things stripped.

Our country completely ignores the danger of mental illness

Our country ignoring mental illness is about the only thing I agree with that you've typed. It is pretty clear you don't know what you are talking about when it comes to these issues. And that is okay, you probably shouldn't be expected to.

But what is frustrating is reading you present these opinions on something you just don't know anything about. You did it earlier when you stated that it is better be dead than to go through sexual abuse, which I think you thought was supportive but actually just communicates a terrible message to victims of abuse.

Here you state that people with mental illness should be:
quote:

Permanently put in the care of a mental environment. Let him work, but only under supervision

Nearly half the people alive have met criteria for some form of mental illness in their lifetime. What I think you meant were that people with sexual impulses toward kids and people with psychotic disorders (I'm just guessing based on the shooting references although Charleston had nothing to do with that). The vast majority of people who fall into the psychotic disorder categories have no violent impulses. You likely interact with people who have these types of diagnoses on a regular basis and do not know it. It seems like you are simplifying a complex issue. And this is not even getting the questions about resources to monitor (poor funding across the board for mental health), insurance, how to predict who might have a higher susceptibility for violence, etc.

That wasn't a diversion.

You just characterized sexual assault victims as people who feel "insignificant, no confidence, questioning yourself with every move, angry." Then said:

quote:

I don't know big guy but it doesn't sound promising for the victim. Show me that CEO that's a victim of abuse.

Who are you to define how victims should feel about themselves or what they can accomplish? I guarantee there CEOs who are sexual abuse victims. I guarantee there are very successful people who have been victims of sexual abuse. Your "support" isn't helping.
This situation and story are awful and I have no idea what will happen. My guess is he won't pitch again in college (and maybe not at all).

These threads always devolve into people trying to one-up each other on how much they are against sexual molestation of kids. Every single rational person is against this and thinks it is horrible. Just because someone doesn't think this guy should get the death penalty does not mean they support him in any way but that is what these threads turn into. The irony is that when people try to prove how against this they are they end up typing things like:

quote:

I honestly would rather have been murdered and dead then have a family member put their fingers and other things in my arse as a 4-6 year old. I seriously mean that

This is not supporting people who are victims of pedophilia. You are communicating that what they have experienced, that you even acknowledge is something many of them have challenges coming to grips with, is worse than being dead.

This is not the only statement in this thread that has done this. It should not be a controversial statement to say that it is objectively worse to be cut up and eaten then being this person's victim. And saying that does not take away acknowledgment that both situations are horrible.

Love almost all of the movies posted but Cocktail is a good choice for hitting the 80s aesthetic. Commando does agood job of capturing the ridiculous action feel of the era.

FWIW in terms of the most 80s sequence I would go with the Key West scene from Running Scared. Just a ridiculous 3 minutes (the roller skating, the clothes, that song).

Picture is shite but here is the scene.

I loved this. Knew nothing about it going in and it is a very different horror film in terms of pacing. I want to check out some of the director's other movies; I've only seen his segment in the third VHS movie and didn't care for it. Spring was really good, however.
He would've won the MVP if Texas had not blown it. And Josh Hamilton would have one of the most famous HRs ever if they hadn't blown it again.

Without knowing all of the circumstances it is a mistake to rush to judgment.

It is funny to keep reading this from people right after they post something like...

quote:

Suppose the woman was sloppy drunk. Should Godchaux have let her leave with the child? There are circumstances that could have existed that made Godchaux's actions reasonable.

So is it okay to rush to judgment or not? People are going out of there way to create scenarios where he is not in the wrong here and she is. I'm fine with the "don't rush to judgment part" but it doesn't really fit when half the posters use it to so they can post an extreme version of something some woman did to someone they know.

I love the movie in general but the first 20-25 minutes are as good of an opening as any movie I can think of.
