Who remember the first Serop's on Government across the street from Calandro's? I remember as a child loving the belly dancers.

Loved going there as a kid. My Mom loved Kibbehs, but they had an amazing menu. There was a crawfish and rice dish that I adored. It was elegant.

My Grandma would only shop at Calandro's.
Last night I baked an apple pie. Today or tomorrow I’ll be making green bean casserole and crabmeat-stuffed mushrooms.

We're heading up to see my dad—it’s our first Thanksgiving since my mom passed. Skipping mashed potatoes feels a little strange. She was from the Midwest, a meat and potatoes family.

Dad is frying a turkey breast.
My Dad to find some semblance of happiness, especially since this is the first year without my Mom.

He's hurting and if not for his Faith, he wouldn't still be here.

I love the celebration of the birth of our Saviour. I dislike the forced everything, which I have always resisted. Family who doesn't really like one another, pointless gifts, etc.

My Mom's last Christmas was 2024 - She got me, my husband and my Dad these ridiculous radio controlled objects (not cars). She was dying of cancer, and I believe she enjoyed watching us race them around, even though she bought all the same frequencies, so it was chaos.

My father, his brother, adopted sister, my husband and his parent's are my only family left.

I spent a Christmas alone. Mom didn't even call. I am beginning to warm up to the "Season", but I have both good and bad memories.

Decorations, as sparse as they are, will never go up before Thanksgiving.

Was 6 Pack Deep a ska band? I think I have one of their t-shirts from a show at the dive bar across from Burlington on Old Hammond. Also, I worked with a guy at the Chimes who was in a band called Rittner. I only saw them when I happened across them playing at the student union. There were like 3 people in attendence, but I liked the CD.

The wife, patient, is a paraplegic

I do not ask to be disrespectful, but you married a paraplegic?
Mom died in February of this year, my Aunt 3 weeks later, then my boss, all within 1.5 months. My dad reaches out to me more often (a daily text), which I appreciate. My husband and I will spend Thanksgiving with him.

I am my father's executrix, but I think about the logistics. Who do I call on the day he doesn't text me and I learn he has died alone? The police, the funeral home?

I went through some major professional changes during this year, so I am not sure I have really processed all of the loss. But sometimes it's like a punch to the gut.
Here is a take - what if the "inheritence" isn't really worth much?

For example - A home, in the middle of nowhere, that has been in the father's family for a century+? The father inherited the farm from his parents, grandparents, etc., and intended to leave the legacy to his future generations. He is now very old, and his wife of 60+ years wants to leave it to some church.

I do believe the children have the right to be upset in losing a piece of thier history. There are certain things that carry more familial significance. Money isn't it.

We decided it was more fun to tie this to someone's bike than use it as intended

Nicotine gum, all of the time. And I have never smoked.

I put everything I could under my $10 microscope. I "raised" the fuzzy caterpillars and deemed the stinging ones to be of Satan. The outdoors were an adventure and I even discovered today, that our toys were pretty cool.

Cause "I'm worth it!"
So, almost $1,100/year on your hair. That's wild. I assume you are a woman and blonde. All of the new stylists trying to start out seem to cater to blondes.
I am female and haven't paid for a haircut since pre-COVID. Youtube/Google/Internet are amazing resources.

Vintage Toys - See n' Say

Most of us are older than we would like to admit. Something made me think about this toy, today. Stop reading if you are under 35-40.

You pointed the arrow, and the mechanical toy made the noise of the barnyard animal.

It turns out, it had a record and needle inside. What was confusing at first, knowing how records move from outer-edge, to the inside, was how did this toy, from 1964 play different "tracks" while moving like a normal record and not play over other sounds, from left to right?

Then I had an "a-ha" moment. Each sound was a separate "entry" and went in a swirl fashion (thus the spacing on the toy, I assume). I thought it was really cool to figure out and was impressesed by the "technology" on a plastic toy.

The massive display of Christmas lights at the capitol. I think Exxon sponsored.

Po Folks was at Florida and Wooddale.

Burger Tyme on Government (Mom loved the Blazin' Cajun burger).

Leo's skating rink had a defunct ice skating rink until BTR got an ice hockey team.

There was a strip club on Tom Dr. in between Wooddale and Airline.
We call it “The Husband Resource Drawer”—a majestic realm where I valiantly attempt to organize batteries in baggies and tame rogue rubber bands like a domestic Indiana Jones.

It’s basically a tribute to my Grammie’s legendary junk drawer from back in the day. You needed a birthday candle, a bread twist tie, or a mysterious key to nothing? Boom—Grammie’s drawer had your back.

Mine’s the same, just with more marital diplomacy and fewer Werther’s Originals.

73 here. Long sleeve weather, for sure.

I moved here in November of 2014, from Baton Rouge and it was in the low 70's. I was in a sundress and couldn't fathom why people were wearing coats. Now I get it.
Food trucks are the culinary equivalent of a bad Tinder date: overpriced, underwhelming, and served on a paper plate while you awkwardly stand around wondering why you didn’t just eat at home.

We hit up a local brewery on Wednesdays—free pinball with a tab, and about 15 machines to choose from. There’s always a food truck lurking like it’s doing us a favor. I ordered once. Never again. It was like paying $18 for sadness and soggy fries. I don’t get the charm of eating while walking, juggling a flimsy paper plate.

Bet she's pro-abortion too. And women wonder why they're single.
