It’s kind of interesting that baker and raymond were on the staff when he got here and he let both of them go. I get hindsight is 20/20 but the fact remains that recruiting on defenses has been sub par.

His biggest downfall has been recruiting on defense. 3 d line coaches in 3 years and should have never let Raymond go. Name one guy on defense not named perkins who is a future pro. With Bo Davis and Raymond back we finally have some studs coming in 25. So maybe year 5 we will be a contender. I know we paid this guy 10 mil and in year 3 here we are. It is what it is.

Lack of recruiting at D line and in the secondary. New coordinator D still sucks. You have one nfl player on defense. You have talent on offense but the online is soft from 2 years of zone blocking and a running qb. 3 years in we should not be a 9-3 team. He finally has some guys on the D staff who can recruit. 25 class has some talent. But realistically your looking at 2 years before you see it. So maybe 5 years in we will be where we need to be. Only question is can Kelly win the big one. Jury is out on that.

Gonna be a repeat 9-3 at best. The first 2 years we didnt recruit for shite on defense. No 5 star linemen or db’s. Now that we have Raymond back and Bo Davis we have some solid players in 25 class. Plus #1 QB and RB. Maybe in year 5 we can make a run.

Jay had the number one recruiting class
And the number 2 portal class. It just hasn’t worked out. He chose not to sign more position players hoping guys like Kling, Frey and Neal would step up and they haven't. Loer has been a bust. So has Bingham. Thatcher Hurd coming back was supposed to be a weekend starter and he’s struggled. Crazy year. Curse of the natty.

“People say this but the same guy loaded the bases in the 9th. We had a 4 run lead entering the 8th. There was no need to go straight to Herring with a 4 run lead. Hindsight is nice to have but it’s not realistic. You want to save Herring if possible and a 4 run lead with 6 outs to win is a pretty good time to try to do that”
What’s important is to win game one. Herring has a 1.8 era in league play. He’s not likely to give up 5 runs in 2 innings. Jay gambled and lost.

By rule you have to stay between the lines. On replay it looked like he was on our outside the line. Could have been called out but replay is in Birmingham. Either way. Jay fricked up by not starting Herring in the eighth.

On replay the guy was not inside the lines. Should have been interference. But Jay fricked up by bringing Little back in the eighth.

No Jay lost this game. Shoulda brought Herring in to start the eighth. Got greedy with a 4 run lead and tried to save Herring.

Bottom line we lost 6 starters on offense and a LOT of run production. Jay signed 2 guys in the portal. Bingham and Braswell. He was counting on Jones, Kling and some of the younger players stepping up. For the most part it has not happened. Jones is better but still strikes out too much. Kling cant hit sec pitching. Milam was a surprise but he’s struggled in the sec. Larson is probably the only one who has some potential. All of the kids were highly rated coming out of HS.

Jay only got 2 position players in the portal. He was banking on some of these freshman and sophomores coming around. I mean we’ve got the Gatorade players of the year from 4 states and they have not made the jump. He should have hit the portal and got a couple more proven players. The pitching staff IDK. We got some guys and other than Holman it has not worked out. Remember our pen was not great most of last year until the end.
