Not unlike many fans of oversigning programs, you appear to be confused about what oversigning is and how it applies to South Carolina currently.

South Carolina had 26 scholarship players departing as of signing day. It signed 31 (including the surprise announcement just before Signing Day that long-time commits Mauldin and Montgomery would not be given LOIs to sign after all).

Clowney made 32.

Tramell Williams has since been chased off to an inferior university so South Carolina is currently, after 2 pulled offers and chasing a back-up out of town, 5 oversigned.

That's a common excuse for him.

Reality is that he cares. He's just not that good a coach anymore.

Spurrier had a nice run with Wuerffel but has been very average since then. 1 SECC in 5 post-Wuerffel years at Florida and 5 mediocre seasons at SC in which he can't even beat Vandy, Clemson, and mediocre bowl opponents with any regularity.

Amazing how much some SEC fans overrate this guy at this point.

Fwiw, they return fewer OL starts (10) than any other BCS conference team. That's never good news.

Why does Richt (the 4th highest winning percentage among active coaches) "suck", iyo?

No arguments there.

I don't think Meyer will miss even one game though.

I think Richt is about 4 or 5 now. Losing in-state recruits to others with regularity, waiting two years too late before firing his DC...who may have singlehandedly cost them any realistic shot at winning the NC last season when they were the preseason #1.

So he should have fired his DC after a #2 season in which the defense was not bad?

That's intelligent.

Spurrier #2?

The dude can't even beat Vandy and Clemson consistently, much less the better teams of the SEC.

LSU on the bad end of another horrible call late in a game (the PF on Hitt).

Justice.

Your defense wasn't the problem today, fwiw.
This article made me think of this thread.

quote:

For all the focus Florida coach Urban Meyer has during games, he admits to losing some on Oct. 29, 2005.

It was Meyer's first Florida-Georgia game, but his thoughts drifted elsewhere for a few seconds when he was told that ballyhooed quarterback recruit Tim Tebow was in the stands.

"Someone saw him and I said, 'Was he cheering when we scored? Was he happy?' " Meyer said during his Monday press conference.

It's hard to figure out who the bigger tool is...

The guy who actually took the time to make such a stupid shirt, or the person that would actually pay for and wear that in public.

So you think you win be outscoring Florida? I'm not saying it's not going to happen, but I would hate to have to depend on out shooting Florida. Another side note, Florida's defense has not been getting a ton of publicity, but in the last two games they have been phenomenal. They shut down LSU and demoralized the same lsu oline that yall are praising. It's tough for me to say but Florida dominated LSU in every aspect. Georgia solely outscored us. If I turn out to be wrong, I will be the first to start a new thread saying so. I just don't seeing it happening. Georgia is good Florida is great.

Last year, Florida routed Tennessee, Tennessee routed Georgia, and Georgia routed Florida.

This stuff happens all the time in CFB, especially the SEC. Every game is a new game and the matchups are different. If McCray doesn't completely blow a bad Tebow pass, LSU starts with decent field position after the ensuing punt, still in a 0-0 game, and not having to rely on the pass so heavily so soon. Pound the ball with Scott as is your strength and you probably take an early lead. Does Florida still win? Probably, but it's likely a very different and much more competitive game.

Georgia's offense controls the field and the clock and limits the other team's possessions and wild momentum swings. Jump its OL early like Alabama did, or else you are in for a very tough game. Florida's DL/OL are not nearly as good as Alabama's, so they are going to have a tougher time doing that.

Holliday, he doesn't ever get too many more carries that 3-5 a game. Also, he is more of a big threat back. When he was in the game, your defense locked in on him. Very seldom does Trindon go into the game on offense and not touch the ball, it shouldn't be very hard to defend.
On the other hand, demps and company are constantly in the game and have a veteran QB that can run.

In an unbiased opinion, do you really think Florida will only score 28? You haven't kept a topped rank SEC team under that number this year and Florida has by far the best offense that you have played. I just think this is wishful thinking of your part. Last year's game can also be tossed out the windonw. Florida did not have a running game last year other than Tebow. This year they do.

One last note, I was feeling the same way you were about UF befor LSU played them, and, like it or not, I think UGA and LSU have similar defenses. Both are prone to the big play, and both make alot of mistakes. The personnel strengths might be different but the bottom line is the same.

I honestly think 44 - 31 UF with UGA scoring a TD late to make it closer. I just didn't see anything in UGA's defense in either this game of Alabama that can slow down the florida team of the last two and a half games

Fair enough. We'll find out tomorrow which of us is right.

Like I say, I think you'll see Demps/Rainey bottled up pretty much like Holliday was. Florida will go away from them pretty quickly and to Harvin for most of their carries... just like last year.

LSU put 180 yards and 2 TDs on our defense in the last 10 minutes of a game where half the stadium was already empty by then. And they were able to do it because they had used a much better OL and big RB to shell shock Curran/Jones for the previous 3 quarters, leading to them being tired and tackling poorly.

How can yall continue to assert that you have a great defense that will stop Florida?

My prediction for the UGA/UF game is 42-28, UGA. Very similar to last year (as Georgia's defense is).

Every matchup is different, and Demps/Rainey are a whole lot better matchup for us than Scott and LSU's OL are (especially when Ellerbe was out as he won't be for the UF game).

Demps/Rainey had 21 carries against LSU. I doubt they get more than 10 against UGA. They will be put away pretty quickly with Harvin then getting most of the hand-offs.

How do you explain Holliday only having 3 yards on 3 carries against UGA's awful defense (on a day when Scott was running all over us)?
quote:

I don't understand this. How can Georgia still think they have a good defense? Yes you beat us, but you gave up the same number of points as our "terrible" defense and your "all-american" qb did it compared to our redshirt freshman qb. I just don't understand how you can give up 500 yards and 38 points to a redshirt freshman and co. and still feel good about your defense against the most explosive offense in CFB

Every matchup is different.

Alabama and LSU beat up our defense with 2 great OLs and a bruising running game. That is how Tennessee ran over it last year as well.

Florida doesn't have that. It has a weaker OL and 2 RBs that like to run wide out of shotgun, Holliday style.
quote:

Did I say the Tebow or the gators were perfect? No. They lost 4 games with him. Its not insane to think they could go 7-5 without him. If Tebow got hurt the first game of this season, what do you think the Gators record would be? Surely not 7-1.

Fair enough. But the same could be said about Georgia as well.
quote:

100% correct. shite they lost 4 games with the heisman winner last year.

Auburn: UF ball at midfield after a punt, late 4th Q, tie game. 3 & out. Auburn gets the ball back and kicks the game-winning FG.

LSU: Tebow throws a killer 4th Q INT, deep in UF territory, that gives LSU a short-field TD and totally turns the game around.

Georgia: Tebow sacked 6 times and pretty average for the game despite having weapons like Harvin/Caldwell/Ingram to throw to. Offense manages only 23 points.

Michigan: 50% completion rate against a bad defense. Once again unable to pull out a 4th Q win in a tight game.

Tebow is 15-5 as a starter. Stafford is 24-5. You say Moreno, I say Harvin/Caldwell/Ingram, etc. You say UF defense, I say UGA OL. And so on...
