The price of coffee has seemed to take a jump, but how quickly do people go through a bag? How much coffee are they drinking where that actually makes a dent in their disposable funds?

Smart people just drink the free coffee at their office.

Not to mention it's not enough to move the needle at all on income taxes

Per ChatGPT:

quote:

President Donald Trump's proposal to exempt all tip income from federal income and payroll taxes could significantly impact federal revenue. The Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget (CRFB) estimates that, without considering behavioral changes, this policy would reduce federal revenues by approximately **\$150 billion to \$250 billion** over the next decade (Fiscal Years 2026–2035) .([CRFB][1])

However, the actual fiscal impact could be even higher. If the policy leads to an increase in reported tip income—due to workers and employers reclassifying wages as tips to take advantage of the tax exemption—the revenue loss could rise substantially. For instance, a 10% increase in reported tips could elevate the revenue loss to between **\$165 billion and \$275 billion**, while a 100% increase could push the loss to between **\$300 billion and \$500 billion** over the same period .([Newsweek][2], [CRFB][1])

This proposal has sparked debate among policymakers and experts. While some argue it would provide relief to low-income workers, others caution that it could disproportionately benefit higher-income individuals and lead to unintended economic consequences. Additionally, the potential for increased tax avoidance through reclassification of income raises concerns about the policy's effectiveness and fairness.([NY1][3])

In summary, exempting tip income from federal taxes could cost the U.S. government between **\$150 billion and \$250 billion** over the next decade, with the possibility of higher losses if behavioral changes lead to increased reporting of tip income.([CRFB][1])

So, worse case scenario $500B over 10 years would be $50B per year, so tariffs would cover it in 3 months.

No tax on OT is calculated around $1.7trillion over 10 years, so $170billion per year. 10 months of tariffs would cover that.

So now we need to make up 17 billion since there are only 12 months, not 13. I would hope that the extra spending money of these 2 policies would generate enough extra tax base to cover it.

Is DOGE even eliminating what they find?

I’m not clear on that.. are they just identifying or are they actually cancelling all these payments?

I haven't been following too close, but I do remember seeing announcements of some contracts being cancelled. I think most gov contracts have a cancellation for convenience clause. They also have a cancellation due to lack of funding, so Congress can write them out of future spending bills.

Why wouldn't anyone think having vehicle inspections is a bad idea???

Antique vehicles are exempt from inspection stickers. That means any vehicle was made prior to 2000 is exempt. How much really goes wrong with a vehicle in the first 5 year? That brings us to vehicles made between 2000 & 2020. What percentage of vehicles on the road today fit into that range?

I haven't looked at this year's bill, but past years' bills did not eliminate any laws concerning driving a vehicle that's not fit for the road. You could still get pulled over for lights that are out, or if you got pulled over and your windshield was cracked, you could get a ticket.

Let's be honest, what's the full checklist of an inspection? Lights, horn, windshield & wipers, technically I guess you could include brakes. If you're unlucky enough to live in one of 5 parishes there's the gas cap test for emissions. If you're not worried about insurance or registration, you're not worried about not having a current sticker.

Then you through in the shops that are known for not caring about certain things and pass everyone. I've had a cracked windshield for probably close to 10 years. I knew where to go that wouldn't care. So are we really benefitting from these inspections. What happens of my windshield gets a crack as I pull out from the inspection station. Don't have to worry about it for possibly 2 more years.

Generates $22 million annually. Oh, it does something…

Is that the state's cut. The reason they won't get rid of it is due to pressure from the mom & pop inspection places that derive most of their revenue from either their cut or sales from items needed to pass inspection. "Your back taillight is out. I can give you a fail sticker that's good for a month as long as you come back within that time with it repaired, or you can buy a new light from me and I'll install it for you.

Part of my covid protest against JBE was to not get a new sticker when mine expired in 2020. The key is to remove the expired sticker so that you can't get a ticket for an expired sticker. If a cop asks you about it, tell him that the glue that holds the sticker on is so crappy that your sticker came off and you don't know what happened to it.

What happens if a candidate or their social media team retweets a meme?

Why limit it the the retweet? What about the original poster?

Does this only apply to official candidates and PACs or does it apply to individuals that support a candidate also?
What are the qualifications to be eligible for photo of the year? Does it have to be taken by a member of the WHCA? Does it have to take place at the WH? Does it have to include the President or some other elected official?

ETA ChatGPT response:

The White House Correspondents' Association (WHCA) does not have a specific award titled "Photo of the Year." However, it does offer the "WHCA Award for Excellence in Presidential News Coverage by Visual Journalists," which recognizes outstanding work by photojournalists covering the presidency. This award is part of the WHCA Journalism Awards, which honor exemplary journalism produced in the previous year. ([Awards | White House Correspondents' Association (WHCA)](LINK ))

Let's say that the pre-tariff price of an item is $100 and it's subject to a 10% tariff. Instead of charging $110, the manufacturer decides to eat part of the tariff and charges $105. Would Amazon have listed the tariff as $10 even though the price only increased $5?

Point being that simply listing the tariff amount doesn't always tell the full story.

"Excess solar resulted in too little inertia”…….. can I get a translation

This quote is referring to a technical issue in power grid management. Let me break it down:

"Excess solar" means there was too much solar power being generated and fed into the grid at a particular time.

"Too little inertia" refers to the physical property of rotational inertia that traditional power generators (like coal, gas, or nuclear plants) naturally provide to the grid. These conventional generators have large spinning turbines that resist changes in their rotation speed, which helps stabilize grid frequency.

So the quote is saying that having too much solar power generation relative to conventional generation created a stability problem in the electrical grid. Since solar power systems are connected through electronic inverters rather than spinning masses, they don't naturally provide the same stabilizing inertia to the grid. When the proportion of solar gets too high without proper compensation measures, the grid can become unstable and vulnerable to fluctuations, potentially leading to a power outage.

This is one of the technical challenges in transitioning to renewable energy sources - finding ways to maintain grid stability while incorporating more non-inertial generation like solar and wind.
Not a fan of the optics here, but what is Jr's ownership percentage of the club? At least a club has a lot more overhead and operational costs than a painting. Materials for a painting was probably under $100, throw in a nice frame and you might be around $500. It's almost all profit.

Once again, bad optics to open it in DC.

I always order using the place's app. Usually has discounts and don't have to worry about how someone else puts your order in.
The Democrats over-used the word racist to the point that it lost its meaning. When everything is racist, nothing is racist. My 13yo calls things she doesn't like racist. Since racist lost its meaning, the Democrats pivoted to white supremacy since that sounded worse.

The term white supremacy is actually racist as it means someone or something is better just because it's white.

This. Sean didn't like local media asking why former great LSU player wasn't getting more playing time. The Denver media won't be asking those questions about an LSU player.

I agree. PTI should not be offered to someone that commits the same crime multiple times in multiple places over multiple days. I'm just calling out the fact that the tweet was not 100% correct. Charges were deferred under the PTI program, not that the DA declined to file charges. Let's call out fake news on both sides.

I'm sure I'll get down voted, but the staffer didn't get totally off free. He was recommended for a pre-trial intervention program that includes restitution to the victims, probably community service, and other conditions. To be fair, the 19yo should be offered the same program.
Will need to defer to SFP, but doesn't the judges actions open up every case she has ruled on to appeal for possible prejudice?
