Buying something for the sole purpose of reducing taxes doesn’t always work out the way people think it does. There are a lot of variables here including things unrelated to the farm or business so buying this for the sake of write offs may not give you the reduction in taxes you are looking for.

What you don’t want to do is find out that you’ve bought yourself a full or part time job to save you 5k or less a year in taxes.

Before you pull the trigger on this or any purchase, go talk to a cpa and get an explanation on just how it could affect your taxes for the year the land would be purchased, the next years including operating the farm or business, and then what happens when you sell.

I’d also check to make sure your withholding is correct. If you are just now finding out that you are getting shellacked then you’ve likely waited until now to file your 2025 taxes and are scrambling to find something to keep it from happening again in 2026.
