re: Where's aggy?

Don’t know if this is an ideal post to engage in a discussion. And, being relatively new to this forum, that may not be the idea. But, in the spirit of being a good loser, this was obviously a great win for Texas. They seem to have a legitimate claim to being one of the top 12 teams. But, for better or worse, that’s not how the playoff system currently works. On the other hand, the game continued a recurring theme for A&M whereby they haven’t been able to put 4 quality quarters together. One serious question I have is whether Manning or Reed should be a more serious Heisman candidate next year. I’m really not sure myself.
quote:

Jobs had to be filled because of the calendar. Kiffin wouldn’t have this job opportunity after the playoff. I don’t blame ole Miss for telling him to leave, but he just took a huge opportunity he likely wouldn’t have again. I don’t see what he did wrong here.

This is one of those situations in which a person’s perspective depends on whether you’re benefiting or losing. Especially considering Kiffin’s history and supposed newfound values, it seems he would be doubly motivated to do the “right thing” by others who will be impacted. Sure, this is a wonderful opportunity for him personally but the same is true for Ole Miss and his players as they enter the playoffs. This gets down to a person’s basic ethics and value system. Bottom line, as in the past, he apparently is going to put himself first. He would have won a lot of respect from people if he had shut this down at the beginning, with a view of waiting until the season is over to consider other jobs. There will be (or would have been) other opportunities …
A rational UGA fan! Thanks, that’s reassuring. I know of many rational Texas fans, as well. Now if we can only find someone from LSU. Sorry - couldn’t resist!
What a bizarre take! You realize this would mean that A&M would have beaten both Texas and either UGA or Alabama? Not to mention the ND win and the thrashing they administered to LSU at BR. But, go ahead and put your garbage out there if it somehow makes you feel better.
Interesting speculation. I attended the 2019 TAMU-UGA game in Athens LINK It was won by UGA 19-13, with A&M marginally leading most of the statistical categories. Georgia’s run game and a turnover by A&M were the deciding factors. I suspect a game would again be close if they happened to meet this year.
I find myself in an awkward position responding to UGA Alum’s post, being a TAMU alumnus but having also spent 6 years in graduate school at Georgia. Athens has always been my favorite college town, plus I married a UGA graduate who is an avid Bulldog fan. So, classic double allegiance - we have side-by-side UGA and TAMU banners in our front yard each football season. I suppose the tipping point for me is the post’s tone. Yes, this is the SEC Rant forum but it still grates a bit (I realize that’s the idea - grrr). Admittedly, the arrogance is well earned with Georgia’s tremendous recent success, two NCAA national titles, etc. But, the post also ignores and perhaps reflects concerns about the reality of this new NIL era and A&M’s obvious resources as well as the fact that we seemingly have (finally) found a quality coach in Mike Elko. In any case, I’m enjoying the banter and look forward to seeing how the season plays out. On that note, nothing would make me happier than a UGA-TAMU SEC championship game! We shall see ….

Sorry, I’m not looking to derail the good-natured banter but wanted to provide some background on TAMU’s evolution as a truly coeducational university. This is probably best reflected through the student body. As of the 2024 fall semester, the total enrollment was over 79,000 students, with approximately 61,442 undergraduates and 17,672 graduate and professional students. Female students make up about 46.9% of the student body, while male students constitute the majority at 53.1%.

Speaking as an “Old Ag” who has followed Aggie athletics since the late ‘60s and served on the TAMU faculty from 2012-2019, our female students have greatly enhanced all aspects of Aggieland, including the vaunted 12th Man spirit. Just as with the Cheer Team posted here, the Aggie Dance team often performs at events. LINK More broadly, A&M’s women’s athletic teams have thrived.

Yes, we have a lot of traditions, perhaps chief among them the Fightin’ Texas Aggie Band. As Aggies like to brag, we may get “outscored” in the game but we’ve never lost a halftime! Nothing has made me more proud of A&M’s growth as a university than to see a female cadet lead the band.

Yes, with all the mostly good hearted banter between Texas and A&M fans, it’s probably best to focus on the memories of how Texas embraced TAMU in the aftermath of the bonfire disaster. And, on that note, if you have a chance to visit the A&M campus, please take in the Bonfire Memorial that recognizes the 12 (ironic) students who were lost that tragic day. Very moving.

Having watched the A&M-Mizzou game, an upset will only be possible if Zollers has improved substantially. Missouri will not be able to run on OU like they did against MS State.

This is reminiscent of Ohio State’s fans reacting a couple years ago to Ryan Day not being able to beat Michigan. But, some of the other concerns about Sark not doing justice to the portal in the off season and his defensive press conference comments are more concerning. Not sure what to make of the innuendo from others concerning his personal life. As an objective Aggie fan ??, I honestly do think that forcing Sark out with so many coaching positions open would be a mistake. Maybe, my memories of the Charlie Strong and Tom Herman years are still too fresh. And, it could well be that the rails have already been greased for a new hire. We shall see!
Well written post with a logical question. To be fair, I think most would agree that A&M has to be pretty darn good to go 10-0 even with an admittedly weak SEC schedule. But, we don’t know whether they are a national championship caliber team. The same could be said about most teams, including Indiana and a host of others. Remember that Ohio State only beat Texas 14-7 to start the season. Of course, that’s the beauty of the playoff system, which will allow a champion to be determined on the field.
Thanks for the response. To round out my comment, I was also at A&M for the 2013 season and beyond. Manziel’s performance against Duke in the 2014 Peach Bowl was even more impressive. His ability to rally A&M from that halftime deficit was reminiscent of Reed’s leadership at the South Carolina game this past Saturday. In addition, I had one telling interaction with Johnny at Northgate. He was very respectful in talking with my group and deflected praise for the Duke game to his teammates. Picking up on your point, I agree that Manziel is still growing as an individual and expect him to increasingly play a positive role for TAMU in the future. There will never be another JFF!
I was on the TAMU faculty during the 2012 season. Went to many of the games home and away including the Cotton Bowl. Have never seen a more electrifying player than JFF. Will leave comparisons to this season and Marcel Reed until after everything has played out. But I will say that Marcel is very impressive, perhaps even more personally than as a football player. He is destined to be an outstanding representative for TAMU well beyond his playing career.
