10 divisions of 10 teams that are regionally clustered. Top 2 teams advance to the playoff. 4 at-large berths for people to advance out of tough divisions. Balance non-conference scheduling with an algorithm that selects for roughly equal strength of schedule and history.
This way you have a meaningful regular season, regionality, & the greedheads and Stankey are satisfied.

I’ll watch LSU. But after the LSU game I’ll be switching over to watch golf. I’m not going to watch a bunch of meaningless qualifying games. Tony Petiti & the Little 10 need the playoffs to manufacture meaning for them. It always just meant less.

Sankey’s goal is to get enforceable rules that allow the SEC to govern itself in this new era of football. He’s picking on LSU because we’re the black sheep right now. Allows him to create the precedent he wants while expending less political capital than he otherwise would. That seems to be his angle. Chances of LSU actually getting expelled from the SEC are nil. Unfortunately LSU is going to be the conference’s punching bag but if it leads to a situation where the SEC can establish enforceable rules in the long-run: probably worth letting it play out.

Can’t make a putt if you aren’t on the green. Look at the Les Miles era in retrospect. He would’ve had the tigers in a 12 team playoff almost every single year.
