(In the late 1970s or early 1980s, I was playing violin in a wedding in Mobile, when Ed Keyes, minister of music and soloist, turned to me and told me the score. His wife, Jan, was listening on the radio in the congregation and was hand-signaling the score to him as he and I sat next to the piano).

The fact that he was only in his mid-20s when he did this makes it even more amazing.

That's the thing people often overlook about the war. These were very young people in very important roles. When historian Stephen Ambrose consulted on "Saving Private Ryan," he told Tom Hanks he was far too old to be an Army captain. A lot of TV and movie portrayals of the war have featured actors much older than those who actually fought in the situations being portrayed.

It's hard to do play-by-play well. Ferguson made it sound easy.

John Ferguson in World War II

Older Tiger fans will remember John Ferguson as the play-by-play radio voice before Jim Hawthorne. This World War II history blog has a story about what he did during the war.

One of the biggest surprises was why Clemson did not show up just a few hours a way from the game. Anyone know why???
Because they thought LSU was going to show up. Fooled 'em.

he mentioned the other day that Spurrier is no different than JoePa and he wouldnt be surprised if Penn State type allegations has happened under the HBC's watch.
He didn't say anything remotely close to that.

In discussing Spurrier's refusal to take questions at two consecutive press conferences, and last year's situation where he refused to talk to reporters with Morris in the room, Morris said Spurrier was acting like he was bigger than the university, and that's the kind of behavior that leads to situations like Penn State (presumably, because nobody could dispute Paterno). No way did he even come close to suggesting that the Penn State allegations had happened under Spurrier's watch.

AHH all of this comming from an UGA fan, whose qb is so clutch against good competetion

One thing we know for sure is he's 2-0 against tennessee.

What does that have to do with good competition?

Wasn't women's Equestrian South Carolina's only national championship before they won the college WS?
Won the women's track and field title in 2002 when it was held at LSU's Bernie Moore Stadium.

I'm old and my memory is failing me, but who was the head coach at LSU that didn't even know that he lost his job, until a reporter from WBRZ (Ithink) asked him about being let go?
I think you're mistakenly thinking of Jerry Stovall. He knew good and darned well that he was being fired that morning, so he didn't go to the Board of Supervisors meeting where it happened but went jogging instead. WBRZ found him and told him the news, but it wasn't a surprise to anyone with a pulse in Louisiana.
quote:

ohnny Jones, one of the candidates for the job, was not responsible in his role as LSU assistant coach under Dale Brown, for the Lester Earl saga and ultimate sanctions. For that matter, neither was Coach Brown, as it is now well-known that Lester admitted to lying to the NCAA to get his transfer to a Roy Williams-run Kansas program.
Was anyone responsible for getting a local doctor to pay Earl $5,000? Or did he just do that on his own?

This guy was a coach in waiting at Clemson.
Clemson's head coach has just completed his second year, and they've already named his assistant a "coach in waiting." I tend to think not.

I'm pretty sure the NCAA rules state that in order to have a Championship game, you must have at least 12 teams divided into two divisions.
You are absolutely correct.
Wouldn't hurt my feelings if Spurriers hires Stoops.
quote:

the MAC was granted an exemption to the round robin rule because of unbalanced divisions. They have 13 teams. The SEC should get the same if needed.
Oh. Never mind.
Well, I can't attest to the accuracy of what was posted about the schedule, but if LSU doesn't play MSU, then it's not round-robin, and if it's not round-robin, then the SEC doesn't qualify to have a championship game, as I read the bylaws.

Fortunately, the NCAA isn't known for zealously interpreting its bylaws.
