Probably not, but Scott Rabalais sure is. I don't think I can bear his smarmy face.
With a 3 year old already in the nest, Panda Spouse and I had surprise twins. Scared the crap out of us. Walked around in shock for weeks. Extremely difficult pregnancy. They didn't sleep for 4 years. yep. years. cried all the time (us too). But you know what? We stuck together, we were kind to each other, we put one foot in front of the other, when one was too exhausted to move the other picked it up and we got through it. Once they settled in it has been the ride of our lives and all 3 are outstanding young adults. Tell yourselves you can do it, accept help and support when offered, commit yourselves to their wellbeing and take good care of each other. Totally completely worth it. Good luck man!

LSU fires band director, Roy King.

*The Rant starts talking about TGBFTL and half-time shows.

SQUIRREL!!!!
Thanks. I was checking various websites and just couldn't find anything reliable.
I did a quick skim of the thread, so sorry but need an update: Is I-10 passable between Houston and Baton Rouge? My son needs to drive home.
I've put down two dogs in my adult life. The first one, I waited too long and I've always regretted it. Like you, I sorta used the "his appetite is good" logic and it seemed right at the time, but I don't think it is. The second time, I hung in there and the dog would bounce back, but then there came a time when he didn't. Oh, he coulda held on another day or month, but I made the call and it was peaceful and right and besides missing a great dog, I've never regretted it.
I guess my point is: listen to which decision I regret to this day and which one I don't. It's totally the worst, but it's also part of what we sign on for when we let these guys into our hearts.
Our children are grown. Our daughter still calls us Mom and Dad. Our sons started messin' around calling us little rhyming nicknames when they were teenagers, and it stuck. They were being sweet and funny, not disrespectful, so we don't mind.
Honestly - and I'm not trying to stir any stuff here - I'm far more irritated that the drum major doesn't throw the baton.

Mike gets to do what he damn well pleases.

The drum major needs to throw the baton!

Shop at Replacements, Ltd. - check their website. Completed my late mother's pattern there, even though the pattern was discontinued. Haviland china, beautiful timeless pattern and shape.

re: Tinnitus Sucks Remedies Needed

Posted by panda on 9/29/14 at 6:30 pm to
I've had it for as long as I can remember and I'm a full grown-up. Now add to it vertigo/Meniere's Disease, which kicked in about a decade ago. A wicked case of vertigo - which can slam me to the floor - will make you forget the tinnitus at least for a little while. I believe it's all about the fluid in your inner ear, and it can be off by just a tiny bit, and you're miserable. Get some coping mechanisms, reduce salt in your diet, maybe reduce caffeine too, and there are some exercises. Mostly, prepare to live with it.
I teach this course, so while I'm not the only person with expertise, I'm not pulling this out of thin air, either. There are a couple of things that have the potential, straight up, to wreck a relationship/marriage, a home, and your life. Financial stress is one of them. Now is the time to think very calmly and rationally about this matter. I'm not saying break up, or she's a bad person but I am saying that you should think about putting this relationship into a lower gear until she (and you) get this debt under control, get spending under control, learn to budget, save, and invest, and come to a mutual agreement about your financial futures. Would you marry a person you knew from the start was unfaithful to you? (I hope the answer is, no.) This is just as serious. You mention her salary, debts, and liabilities, but don't mention whether she has any assets (be serious, dude!) - my guess is that she doesn't other than parental safety nets. It's pretty simple math to see that her ratios are out of whack and she's a financial ticking bomb. Again, NOT telling you she's a bad person but give her a chance to grow up, get out of debt, develop discipline in her spending. You won't regret this. You most definitely will regret the opposite.

Thanks so much. But hey, you know what's FUN? This being a DISCUSSION Board, actually having a DISCUSSION about something. Thanks for playing.

Tigers/SEC in the NFL

Posted by panda on 9/1/14 at 10:13 am
An Advocate columnist this morning noted that nine 2013 players left LSU early for the draft and all 9 made their NFL rosters. Does anyone have corresponding stats for the other SEC teams? I'm curious how other SEC teams stack up, especially given the steady conversation about how much talent we regularly lose (and lose early) to the NFL.
TIA.
I'm afraid I agree - I'm not sure the kid kept his foot on the bag at first. The coach had burned his last appeal so the call stands. But I noticed that the announcers did absolutely no analysis or commentary on the replay. I'm sure the umps want to get it right...but I'm not sure that play ended the game.
Honestly, I'm kind of attached to Greg Bowser's analysis. I know the game can be tivo'd and youtube'd and whatever. But I like settling into my recliner and watching it and listening to some interesting commentary.
Watching LSU v Auburn rebroadcast last night on CST got us thinking: will there be rebroadcasts once the SEC network takes over? I LOVE being in TS on Saturday then watching again on Sunday and heck, sometimes on Wednesdays too.

Don't get sassy, I already searched for this topic and didn't see it.
Translates beautifully and at the same time, they make it their own. Love the kid with the toothpick barely reaching his piano! LSU Study Abroad in Ireland is in country right now - wouldn't it be a kick to hear this coming thru the doors of a pub one night!
We have 3 kids, and are just about finished with college as I write this. We've paid for all expenses related to school and living/food. Here was our plan:

save/invest (529 plan, eventually) as aggressively as possible from the moment they arrived. We put together a nice nest egg and just as the first one was half-way through, the economy collapsed. So "the economy" became like a 4th child. We coped, and fortunately the investment recovered in time for the other 2. The investment got us through their junior year at LSU and we've put together the rest.

The goal: graduate from college debt free. ALL of us, not just the kids. We will have achieved this next spring when we are done.

But here's part of what made it work: you can go anywhere you get enough scholarship $ to go, or you can excel and get TOPS and get a perfectly good education at LSU, leaving a little $ for extras like study abroad. We did not even entertain the possibility that they or we would end up with a mountain of debt. Sorry, but there isn't $100,000 worth of difference in an undergraduate degree from LSU vs. most any place else. (Trust me...I'm in the business.) I will never understand - in most cases - the decision to go deeply into debt for an undergraduate degree. A little debt, ok, but not deeply.

Graduate/professional school...yes, go into debt not more than your first year expected salary in your profession of choice. And that debt is on you, the student.

We also weaned them off our discretionary $ pretty quickly: first year, you're paying for your optional "stuff;" second year, you're also buying your gas, etc.; third year, we are now not giving you any spending money and when you graduate...you are off the payroll so plan accordingly. All 3 worked throughout college as well.

Not trying to sell the Gospel, but this level of family discipline has worked for us. We've also saved for retirement. We have a modest home, older cars, no fancy lifestyle but comfortable. And we are blessed beyond measure. But we also agreed from the start on our financial goals - independence, security, little debt and/or aggressive debt reduction. College was managed like everything else, with clear-eyed realism.

Thanks for listening...
