re: Has J. Altidore scored for Sunderland yet?
Posted by acgeaux129 on 10/10/13 at 11:20 am
No way to know for sure. He may have heard the whistle and took something off the shot as well. The idea here is that he straight up bossed Sagna, who is one of the stronger RBs in England, and created a good scoring chance.
He's played decently well. His service just sucks. I hope Sunderland can find a way to get him chances.

Jefferson played a month before the 11/5 game, plus the 2010 game vs Bama and they had a bye before playing LSU. They knew JJ would play.
He didn't start prior to that. Jumbo sets or obvious running situations against UK do not constitute a starting job. They definitely schemed for Jefferson, but only provisionally. Let's also realize that the defense and some good luck won that game. It's not like Jefferson even scored, although we did move the ball better in the second half.

If you look at it objectively and take JJ out of the equation, he was ok. Nothing special. He had a pretty good arm and made some nice throws, but we were mostly beating the hell out of everyone. Oh and Jefferson had a nice long throw to Randle against Auburn (as did Lee) and the one against Bama in 2010 was JJ.
Not really, and it's fallacious to remove JJ from the equation since that's the topic we are discussing. If you look at his stats objectively, he exceed what you would want in a typical game manager for a NC team. He was vastly more accurate and clearly had better vision as a passer. He protected the ball, maneuvered well in the pocket (his OL wasn pretty solid though) given his lack of mobility, and showed tremendous improvement in terms of confidence. He shite the bed on that one play against Bama, I'll give you that.
quote:
Most of this is not true (the last statement is laughable) and just a product of hate for Jefferson/proof that the other QB is always the most popular guy on the team. 2008 happened and right wrong or indifferent, Miles just never trusted Lee after that. JJ was terrible against UGA, but Lee's pick on 11/5 would have cost us the game (and frankly a trip to the BCS CG) if not for the penalty by Bama on the run back. JJ was key in the 10 and 11 wins vs Bama. Clearly Bama planned to stop JJ from taking off in the 2nd game with a soft rush and I agree they should have taken him out for at least a series, but it wouldn't have mattered. Look, Both were awful and I'm glad they are gone Hopfully our QB's going forward will be much better.
Meh, if you would like to dismiss my argument with trite message board shite, that's fine. From a risk-reward perspective, there's no question that Lee offered a lot more, especially for a team trailing against a great rushing attack with a dominant OL. Regardless of how Jefferson happened to do against Bama in the past (09 being a pretty poor example), it was clear that a change was in order. But, personally, I think Miles is generally a huge fricking idiot as a game manager.

Not really that useful. You can learn behavioral finance through self-education and basic common sense/logic. Unless it's from a top school, it's not likely to look too great to prospective investors either.

Let's not kid ourselves. If Saban could have gameplanned for Jefferson in the first game, he would not have been anywhere near as effective. Lee didn't play "okay" in 2011, we played quite well as a pocket passer in a Les Miles offense. His deep ball with Randle was among the best special situation duos in the country. It would have been one thing if JJ was actually fast and had straight line speed. He was just a relatively strong runner going up against a massive DL and LB corps that was ready to match up with him because Saban schemed for it. It was doomed from the start. The irony is that Miles yanked Lee at the first excuse he had to do so, while Jefferson was given shitloads of chances to frick up again. Furthermore, Jefferson showed a shitty attitude throughout the game and Lee never pouted. They had different skill sets, but Lee was light years ahead of Jefferson in terms of effectiveness.

1/9 sucked pretty bad for a variety of reasons. The game was a summation of probably the biggest scar on Miles' tenure thus far-- completely fricking over a player who had shown tremendous resolve over his career. Moreover, it's very arguable our defense was one of the best ever and better than the one Bama fielded, but there's no real way to know since Bama essentially went up against Reggie Ball in Game 2.
I also got offered 1000+ for my ticket and turned it down, and afterwards was stuck with girls who were still deadset on going to Bourbon (not for long). The silver lining is that the game confirmed the maturation process for me with respect to sports and made me realize how fricking stupid people are about it. I also learned to feel sorry for Bama fans, as well as a lot of LSU fans who take it all so seriously. I enjoy college football a lot, but god damn is it a stupid setup.
